Not bad advice on many things in the link. If you're moving here for good, invite friends down a lot and offer to pay that extra checked bag fee, it beats shipping costs.

Also keep in mind that the humidity here is far higher than what most American's experience (New Orleans and a few other spots likely exempt from this statement) as such what you might own in the US with no problem will grow mold or be infested with insects in about a month in the rainy season down here. There's a reason to build with cement and not dry wall.

On the other hand try buying a decent hand made hammock in NJ. If you're building, insist on hammock hooks in all the rooms!!! Boxito stocks them from very simple and cheap to very high end and $$$$. We have them not only in guest rooms at Dos Ojos Lodge but in ours and I love them.

    Cheers

Just so I'm being clear, the hooks I'm discussing are ones that are cemented into your wall after knocking a hole into it, and either have holes for a "S-hook" or have built in "S-hooks". These are not screw fitted to the wall. And prices are my best memory, please do not quote me when you go to visit Carlos at the Boxito ;-)

The cheap versions are basically an "L" shaped piece of metal with a couple holes in one of the ends which stick out from the wall after being cemented into to place. You put your "S-hook" into one of the holes and string your hammock from this... these cost maybe $5 to $10 tops. They also sell much nicer ones where they mount deeper into the wall and have a cover plate which drops into place over the area where the "s-hooks" fit to "hide" the hanger when not in use... these run maybe $30 to $50 depending on color size etc. Then there are very nice highly polished ones with double swivel hooks already attached and these go for something close to $100+.

They also do sell some that are anchor bolted into the concrete as well but I've never taken a close look. Some friends of ours bought a few to take back to the states for their hammocks.

If you've never wandered through the Boxito on one of your trips, you should, it's cool to see what they sell and what the prices of building supplies are.

    Cheers

Thanks for the info! I would have never guessed that you could spend that much on a hammock hook!

Thought I'd share a place with you that we found before I forget about it myself and then I can refer back to it here too. It is a handmade furniture store in Playa off 307. It's on the north end, so heading North on 307 it's on the left side. It says Fabricas Muebles outside of the building and it is in the same strip as the VERY expensive Casa Latina. (There are a few of those though) It's an Italian man that runs it and has many employees making the furniture. Really nice quality. I hope we still have his brochure with e-mail on it. It's Caribbean Furniture something-or-other.com so let me get back to you on that. A VERY nice dresser was $450.00. He uses no veneers and nothing plastic in the construction. We just got home earlier today. It took us over 24 hours to get back. The immigration lines at the Charlotte airport were horrific so we missed our flight and the next was full so we had to spend the night and fly home today FIRST CLASS though!

Place sounds awesome, wish I had somewhere to put great furniture like that. Hmm, wonder how much it would cost to ship something back up here?

And that immigration line in CLT can get seriously long, bummer you missed your flight, hope they're the ones that paid for the hotel!

I think after I heard from gate agents that this can be a common occurrence at Charlotte I will try to not fly through there again. No, they did not pay for Hotel. It wasn't really airlines fault, it was immigration not staffing properly. I know that because an employee was super angry with her superior using explicatives asking why they didn't staff for it. 15 from our flight alone missed the flight.
Anyway, we got a discounted room and first class which they didn't have to do. (U.S. Airways) I do think they could have gotten us on the last flight if we would have pushed, but I told my husband to be patient and not pushy and in the end I think they forgot about us until it was too late, so pushy would have helped!

One: We will be home til 9 a.m.
    Be home probably by 6
Or I could leave it outside on front porch

I wish I could help you out and meet closer. We are just working on the opposite side of town this week.

I just realized that the furniture shown on the facebook page is the furniture at Las Estrellas. But Beachreader would be the one to really know...

We are driving through in the early afternoon. Why don't you mail it to me. I'll send you cash today. You'll get it tomorrow. Then mail it. Did you get my PM with my mailing address? How much should I send to cover your time, mailing, and the honey? Thanks again.

I can mail it to you and I don't want anything in return.I just wanted to do it. Well, I take that back!!!! Maybe in the future I'll ask the same. Maybe I'll need a "mule" sometime. Actually, I need one now to bring Diabetes strips to a friend and glucosomine to another. So, if anyone could bring one or the other there for me on their next trip would be great.
Mudslide when do you think yo'll get to get back?
I thin we will be back there in less than 6 months.

    Hi April,
I do not remember what is on other side of road.
I looked over their business card and the brochure he gave us. No web site. Just this facebook page that I linked above. If you click on the bed it goes to other pictures.

Barb, If Fabricas Muebles is in the same strip as the Casa Latina that is just north of Vidro Soplano (as I believe you stated in another post) then there really is nothing on the east side of 307 (which is probably why you don't remember)!

April, Coming north from Tulum you would pass the pedestrian bridge, pass the CEMEX plant on your right then take the NEXT turn left/turnaround (not the one directly across from CEMEX). This turn around is not marked and was not paved last time I used it but it is easy to see and is used by many folks. When you turn left here you will be directly across from the strip containing the Casa Latina store.
