Did you ever check out Casa Tranquillo?? Or doesn't that work for you?? It would be right next door.

minniemex, I did check out Casa Tranquillo. Their rates for a week are higher than booking a beach front cabana at Cabanas Tulum - not by much, but could save three couples a total of about $500. But it may be worth it to have your own house for a week... I wonder if I could negotiate the price with the owners?... sure would be nice for our entire group to have access to the property, including the rooftop view!

So a three bedroom house (with a kitchen and room for others to hang out) is only just a bit more for a week than three units at Cabanas Tulum? I think it's worth it for the convenience and the group space, but you know your friends/family better than I do. I would definitely contact the owners and tell them what you're doing, that you're taking over La Luna and would like the extra space. Maybe they'll give you a deal, maybe not (April is high season, after all).

Cabanas Tulum is not right next to La Luna. First to the south is Zulum, then the Casa Tortuguita/Limon property (also worth checking out, it's a very cool property), then Ana y Jose, which has a broad stretch of beach, and then Cabanas Tulum. So it's the fourth property to the south. Close enough, certainly, if that works best for you, but not as close as Tranquillo or Tortuguita/Limon.

I'm not sure why they don't list both of those houses on VRBO, but I'm pretty sure you can find Casa Tortuguita via Googling. Or you can look at Limon on the VRBO site that Trish gave you and write to the owners. There was a great trip report on Tortuguita by a member named Dadthatwasagreatadvent. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Finally, a new ticker for Tulum!!!

We just had our wedding in Akumal last April (just north of Tulum). While I can't help with Tulum accommodations I can help with the wedding planner and dj aspects. We used Jennifer Smith of www.marrymeakumal.com for our wedding planning. She took care of everything for us. We also had Charlie and Marie do our ceremony, I can't say enough good things about them! DJ Bob did our music and was fantastic! You can reach him at http://weddingdjrivieramaya.com/index.html

We had our rehearsal dinner at La Zebra on a Sunday night. It was a ball! Good luck and congratulations to you and your daughter. No matter where you decide to stay, you will love Tulum!

Hey, Fishee, do you want to post your wedding trip report thread? That was a good one.

Mother of the Bride, there are a number of other wedding trip reports, and at least one was at La Luna (pre-restaurant). I think maybe it was Marisa? Hmm, I'll try to find that one for you.

beachreader, I agree with you that the best idea might be to rent Casa Tranquillo, even if the cost is a bit more than Cabanas Tulum... especially since you made the good point that it's RIGHT next to La Luna rather than a few properties away. I have contacted the owner and am awaiting his response. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll work with us on the price!

lil fishie, congratulations on your wedding! I love hearing back from those who have had their weddings in/near Tulum. I will contact your wedding planner and DJ Bob - he sounds great from his website and if you thought he was fantastic, sounds like we can't go wrong with him!

We had actually thought about having the rehearsal dinner at La Zebra because we love the idea of eating dinner and then learning how to salsa dance! Can you give me an idea of how you organized your evening, i.e, did you rent out the whole restaurant? (we think we'll have 30 - 35 people), did you have a plated dinner, open bar, music, dancing, etc? Please share!

Thanks all for all the great ideas!

OK, here's the report from Casa Tortuguita, which is two properties south. I just remembered that itsjustme stayed at Tranquillo, so I'll look for her report next.

Oh, and here's the website for Casa Tortuguita (Dad put it in another thread):
http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacat...als/21429.html. You know, just in case Tranquillo doesn't work out for whatever reason.

OK, here's itsjustme's report from Casa Tranquillo. In some of the discussion she talks about how many beds and all that useful stuff.

Thank you so much! We were so happy to have had our wedding in Mexico next to the beautiful Caribbean ocean. It was perfect!

You can't go wrong with Jennifer, she is top notch! She took care of every little detail for us. I should also mention that Jennifer is the owner of Turtle Bay Bakery and Cafe in Akumal so she also did our cake and our catering as well as the planning and decorating! All we had to do was show up! Her service, the food and the cake were fabulous! DJ Bob was great too. Our guests danced until they couldn't dance anymore!

Regarding our rehearsal dinner at La Zebra, we had 20 people with us for the dinner. I just went directly to their website and sent them an email to make reservations. They were very prompt about responding and had our table ready when we arrived. We did the 6 p.m. salsa lesson, then had a plated "off the menu" sit down dinner, then we all enjoyed the music and dancing! It was a great evening. If you decide to do that, I would recommend bringing bug spray! We got eaten alive for the first 15 minutes we were there but once the spray was applied we were fine.

Thanks, lil fishee. I'll spend some time reading your wedding report. Sounds like you had a blast and that's what we're hoping to accomplish too - not just for my daughter and her fiance but for all the guests. And thanks for the recommendation to bring bug spray! I've been hearing that a lot about Tulum. I just sent Jennifer an e-mail. We'll see where that goes. I'll keep you informed!

You are most welcome and you won't be disappointed with Jennifer! Yes, we had a blast. Our wedding was exactly what we wanted it to be. The best part for me was not having to sweat the details because I had a Jennifer. LOL..

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any more questions. I'm happy to help.
