I am so frustrated. Airfares for my family trip at the end of June are STILL horrible. I kept thinking they'd have to drop at some point, but even now, six weeks out, nothing is moving, except possibly upwards.

Saturday and Sunday are absolutely unaffordable, so I'm looking at Thursday or Friday-Monday, figure I'll find us a room later.

Does anyone have any ideas for us from the NY area? Newark is best, Philly OK, but I'll take anything in the region at this point. Newark doesn't have any charters, so we can't tag onto those kinds of carriers.

Also, how do you guys figure the one-way fares? I'm not sure I understand how that works. When I go to the USAir site, they offer different options with different prices, but I don't think that's what you one-way fans mean.

I'd kill for something under $500, or under $600 with reasonable flight times, but it's looking like $620+ is the most likely, and some of these fares are pushing $1000!!!

We're already splurging on the house, I didn't think we'd get so badly screwed on the airfares. I've always been able to find something decent. Oh, for the days when $400 seemed kind of pricey. Sigh.

Our Trip began in Akumal on April 26, 2012 (April's Birthday), our wedding was the next day on April 27th, then Dan's Birthday was on April 28th. He will never have a problem forgetting my birthday or our anniversary... lol

We had a total of 19 people on this trip to Akumal for our Wedding. We all stayed at Vista Del Mar on HMB right on the beach and for many of the family and friends that joined us it was their first time to Mexico. There was so much planned besides the wedding, we did tons of snorkelling in Yal-ku one day then we took them to Cenote Azul, of course we showed them all Akumal Bay and we went Diving and Fishing. The first 5 days that were spent in Akumal were more than busy and tiring. We had a blast and couldn't have planned it better with the people we love the most.

Wedding Day, the ladies had massages and mani/pedis scheduled in our room, massages beach side... OH WOW, those were nice and relaxing. The guys had their time wherever they went.. lol We originally scheduled the wedding for 3:30pm but decided to push it to 7:00pm. It was awesome, we decided to go with the traditional Mayan wedding. The Mayan Gentleman that we cannot seem to remember his name was amazing. Very traditional and very genuine.
The reception was great and it ended with us and our friends having LOTS to drink and lots of dancing at La Buena Vida. Santos at LBV was amazing, great guy and wonderful at his job. If we needed anything he was right there and he got it done. Our professional pictures were taken by Scott Brown in Akumal we haven't received those yet but as soon as we do we will add those.

We will add a few pictures from Akumal but since this is a Tulum forum we will focus on our Honeymoon in Tulum.

Enjoy :)

Today it is time to go back to Ambergris Caye. We decided to take the noon boat back so we could have breakfast first then have a little time to walk around town. We ate on the porch at a small place on front street. The food was good. We were about to leave when my neighbors came walking up the street. They had just arrived by water taxi and were going back to Ambergris on the same boat as we were. They came down to the island for the weekend and are staying at the same hotel as we are. It's a small world. That's three sets of people that we know from Cozumel that were here in Belize for a short vacation.

We walked around town a bit and picked up our final souvenirs to take back to Cozumel. Ended up back at the Bambooze for a few drinks before departing. One of the people we had dinner with last night worked for the water taxi company and met us at the bar. We bought our tickets to Chetumal from him and he gave us the taxi ride back to Ambergris for free. That saved us $20 BZ.

The water taxi leaves from a pier close to the bar so we could keep and eye out for when it arrived. They have a small cart on the pier where you can put your luggage and they will haul it to the boat and load it for you.

The police have their boat docked here too.

The boat going back isn't very big but it makes good time.

Twenty minutes later we were approaching Ambergris Caye.

We had reserved a room at Ruby's for when we came back so checked in and went to the Tackle Box for a few drinks.

Since we were going back to Cozumel tomorrow we walked around town and down the beach to pick up a few more items we wanted to bring back.

We sat around the deck at Ruby's finishing up the Rum we had left then went our own ways for dinner. I picked up some carry out sweet and sour shrimp.

Husker ladies will be boarding that big bird to paradise tomorrow morning. Should have our toes in the tulum sand by 5pm. Finally!!!

Keep your eye out for the *Big Red Husker* flag hanging on our home for the week. Casa Zamna is the place. Give a shout out or wander on over to say hello

See you all soon in paradise.

I'm trying to figure out how much it will cost me to take out 2000 pesos at an ATM in Tulum using my CIBC Mastercard. The current exchange rate is 0.078 plus 2.5% fee and $5. I will bring 500 US cash and exchange down there for a better rate but if we run out, I don't know if I should use an ATM debit card or my Mastercard. I'm sorry, I know we have been over this a few times.

Luv Tulum April 2012

OK, continuing my break from the actual trip report, I decided to get a more complete picture of LuvTulum and their room selection up here.

We really loved Luv! TONS of storage in every room, doors on the bathrooms, comfortable beds, fans, either or both stand and ceiling, mosquito nets, windows, decks, and a nice selection of rooms with two beds so friends can share without having to share a king. And really great staff, led by the charming Daysi. Wow, I just searched through all of my photos and all I could find was this one, cropped from another and not the best image, though her bright smile is clear as day in my head:

We met the new young owners (siblings from Mexico City), and they are actively engaged in changing the restaurant, adding more space there, replacing the palapas on all of the units, that kind of thing. But as those of you who knew the property back when it was the original Amansala, you know what a great piece of property it is, with a great variety of rooms.

I know they're re-doing the restaurant, but I kind of loved this view, not a screen, just this stick grid that they could hang plastic from if need be.

So let's see, I promised myself I was going to get pictures of every room and identify them by name. Not sure I succeeded on both counts, but this will be more complete than we have done so far.

In the very front building, the one with the surfboard, are four rooms. Upper left/south is Paz, upper right/north is Amor; lower left/south is Luna, lower right/north is Sol.

The peak of the roof is actually over the wall between the two upper units, so their decks are part shade, part sun. Just thought I'd point that out because there's a Casa Violeta room that is right smack next to this building on the south side, and a lot of people think that peak is part of Luv, but it's not.

Sol and Amor are pretty much mirror images of one another:

Note the beautiful wood floors. The problem with beautiful wood floors in a two-story unit is that the folks downstairs can hear every step upstairs. They told me their plan is to put solid concrete between the rooms to keep that noise down, though I hope they keep the hardwoods on top!

Not sure if you can tell from this pic, but the front window slides all the way across to really bring the outdoors in. Unfortunately, there are no screens on these front windows, so you may end up bringing a bit more of the outdoors in than you intend. I suggested they try to add even one panel of screening to these doors, hope they do. The screening is really good in almost all of the other rooms on the property but for these four front rooms. It was nice and breezy while we were there, which kept the mosquitos back in the jungle where they belong, but on a still night, when you really need the breeze, that might be an issue.

Hmm, guess I didn't get a good picture of the bed, but it's a king. The room is much prettier than I'm showing, think I should go back and look at my pictures from two years ago, maybe it'll show better.
