Okay, so I didn't do a trip report (sorry Dan!) BUT I have FINALLY posted pics to photobucket! Woohoo! So that's a step in the right direction. I just noticed after posting this the first time that the pictures are HUGE. Sorry about that. I haven't really gotten the hang of the whole re-sizing thing yet. ;)

I know y'all have probably seen plenty of pics of Tita Tulum since Lee & Minnie have both been there. But since it was a topic of conversation today, I thought I'd try my hand at posting pictures with a few. And Dan, I tried to find a couple that had your cabana on it so you can see it is RIGHT ON the BEACH!!!! :D :D

Here goes...

Our cabana was #4 - the top floor of the building by the restaurant.

Inside our room:

We left a little note for the maid on the first day, introducing ourselves and thanking her for her work, and leaving a tip. The next morning:

Arrangement of the room:

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t267/pb2131/PB180004.jpg

Petecat told us to move the bed around to face towards the door & front windows - definitely good advice!

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t267/pb2131/PB230149.jpg

The roof - it was slightly open to the elements so we were eaten by bugs a bit one night -- could be b/c we were the most inland of the cabanas -- we used the netting after that!

Tita's from the beach:

Dan, #5 is on the left hand side of the pic...

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t267/pb2131/PB230139.jpg

Here's one of the property that we took from our balcony. You should be able to see Dan's cabana (#5) through the trees. It'd be the one on the left.

And Kevin enjoying the hammock on the porch!
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t267/pb2131/PB200056.jpg

Okay, so I can see this is going to be a problem, this photobucket thing. LOTS of ways to procrastinate at work - maybe tomorrow I'll do sunrise pictures, the next day beach pictures..... LOL! :D

More tomorrow.....

Phyllis,

Great pics. Thanks. I like the sound of "Dan's Cabana". Maybe I can just stay down there and live on the property :D I make a mean breakfast, just ask Chris!

Also, if you're on Windows XP there is a utility that I use to shrink pics if you want. Go to here (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx)and on the right hand side near the bottom is "Image Resizer". Once installed if you right-click on a picture file it will ask you what size you want made, I usually use the 640 X 480 for posting here and LG. The good thing is it makes a copy of the original, and does not overwrite it. The copy will have the same name with (small) etc after it.

Eagerly awaiting more pics. :)

After seeing Ad Guy's pics, and now Phyllis'...Tita looks to be all I could want. It looks open airy and comfortable with a great beach. If the management and owners aren't right there every minute to satisfy my every demand, that's ok for me..I am usually one of those guests who the management seldom sees anyway, unless it is just for a bit of conversation in the evenings, or to ask about the best spot for this or that.

My next destination will be Tita. I can't imagine anyone thinking their prices are too high for what they offer!

Thanks Phyllis! After Dan's trip, can we start calling that Cabana Gale's Cabana?:D

I'll be more than happy to "turn over the keys" to you next Gale.

So far I have been extremely impressed with Tita's level of service and I haven't even gotten there yet! I've reserved #5 with a two night payment through Pay Pal. Piece of cake (Mmm, cake). Then I emailed to ask if I could pre-pay the entire 8 day stay so I wouldn't have to worry about it while there. Tita replied (in 10 minutes) to say they get a 4% hit via PayPal but offered to send me her bank # to arrange a wire transfer! Voila! I wired the funds this past weekend.

They have been quite responsive to any questions I've emailed them. Sometimes a reply right away, sometimes a day or so later. It's Mexico .

Gale, it sounds like we are the same type of tourists. We don't ask much, and appreciate good friendly service.

OK - now I have to TRY to get some work done.

These are wonderful, Phyllis!!! I wish (almost) we were going to be at Tita's instead of staying on Soliman....we will be walking the Tulum beach though. That reminds me, I never saw your "beach walk" pics from your last time in Tulum....could you post them here, por favor??

Well, we're on Mac's, and Kevin does have a resizing utility. I was eager to get some pics posted and just didn't realize how big they were until after I posted them!

If I do post more pix today from work, they'll probably end up being big too.

The one thing I thought Tita could do differently had to do with drinking water... Tita provided us with a pitcher of water that they refilled each day, plus two little glasses. Not very portable! So if you stay there, be sure to stop at the San Francisco and pick up some bottled water so you can carry it with ya.

Gotta get a few things done this morning - then I'll post some more.

Hey Lynnette! I'll try to do the beach walk pix soon, although Minnie did a great job of documenting the beach walk too -- which is why I didn't post mine -- she probably even has them up here on the site somewhere -- got a link, Minnie?

I tend to agree with Lee (AdGuy) - Tita's is fine, but I do think there are some better spots out there, particularly if you want to feel more secluded (though not everyone cares about that). I'm eagerly awaiting everyone's reports from Hamaca Loca. I'll be curious to see what Dan thinks about the privacy issue at Tita's too. Not sure what Lee or Minnie thought, but I sure didn't feel like I was in a secluded or private spot. But if any of the rooms would feel that way, it would probably be #5. Aka "Dan's Cabana" and then "Gale's Cabana" and then..... :D

Thanks, Phyllis, great photos!

And Dan -- I'm jealous. I'd love to be in No.5, but it was booked up by last July for our time period (semana santa).

Does anybody have photos of No. 8?

I, too, am one of those pretty low maintenance guests. As long as I can get a drink and a snack occasionally, I'll be all good.

I do want to try to find a baby sitter for one night, tho, so the man and I can go to Hechizo. I don't know that a 10-year-old would be much interested. Any ideas? If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out and he'll come with us. He'd a good kid.

Thanks again for the photos. I like 'em big, too. More detail that way.

FYI...there should be photos of each room on Tita's website. Also, which one is #8? I took several shots while there and might have an exterior of the room but just not sure which it was. They changed the numbering of the rooms in November. I think we were in either #9 or #11.

PhyllisB

Hmmmm, I think you'll be more "inland" in #8, like directly across from where ours was. So, across from the restaurant, instead of next to it. Does that sound right Minnie? Seriously, as Lee said, it's just a few extra steps to the beach..... not a big deal at all....... You might get a little more noise from the road, but if you're like us -- we tend to get up with the sun anyway and spend our days out and about -- it won't bother you....

Phyllis,

Part of the reason for our "good not great" opininon of Tita's was due to the three days of rain. I'm not blaming them for the bad weather but for the poor roof quality (you mentioned this as well)...after a day it started to leak into the room. We did notice a few minor things (stairs that weren't properly nailed down, inconsistent maid service, worn sheets) but all in all we still felt it a good value.

No doubt about it though, #5 is the 'best seat in the house'!! :D

We were right in that area and didn't hear any road noise (and my wife will tell you I can hear a horse blink)...just the crashing surf. Of course, if the sound of waves bothers you while drifting off to sleep, you can alway turn the ocean down with the volume control knob located near the front door. Honest...it's there...keep looking! :D

Yeah, I can see how the rain might be an issue with the roofs.... yikes!

I think they are pretty open to questions/concerns from guests though, so I would recommend that anyone who stay there ask them questions or communicate concerns. I think one room got a new mattress when we were there. And, because I assumed beach towels would be provided in the rooms, we never asked about them -- but then it turns out they do provide them... if you ask. But I'm guessing there isn't much they can do to if the roof is leaking.......

Here is as close to #8 that I have right now -

Your room should be down to the right -

Here's looking in from the front towards the restaurant - yours would be to the left -

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k83/Minniemex/Tulum/DSC01030.jpg

I do think I might have a better picture at home on my computer there - will look tonight -

P.S. I did not stay at TT, just spent alot of time in their restaurant - the best ambiance!! Loved it!! Food was ok too -

Love your pics.......do you have a link to your "beach walk" photos that Phyllis mentioned? We've been to Tita's restaurant and will probably stop again in May. Do think they would mind if we left the car and accessed the beach to walk south after breakfast?? All of these photos & reports and making it hard for me to work today!! ;)

I'm trying to get my bearings...I'm facing Tita Tulum with my back to the ocean. Dan's place (#5) is on the shore to the far left. We stayed in #9 (though it may be #11 now) which is about four units back on the left side. I believe there's on more unit farther back on the left, then Tita's office. If you cross the sand from there you hit the restaurant and units (now on the right side) start heading toward the beach.

Does anyone know the numbers of the cabanas (or have an overall layout)? It might be helpful when someone asks about "Cabana 4" and wants to know if noise from the restaurant/road/surf will be an issue. My best guess is #1 is on the beach to the right, followed by #2 and then #3 is the lower unit and #4 is the top unit to the right next to the restaurant. Then we jump to #5 to the left on the beach, followed by #6 and #7 being the double slightly inland and so forth. Seem right?

May should be a pretty slow time and I doubt they would mind if you left the car (assuming you're first using the restaurant) and strolled the beaches. There's not alot of parking but they definitely won't tow you! :)

Ahhhh . . . I can hear the surf coming in already.

I laughed at the TA review, or somewhere, where I heard a gripe against not being able to sleep due to the "crashing surf". Right now, on the nightstand in our Bose "Wave Radio" (pun intended) we have a relaxation CD of 60 minutes of Ocean Surf. I hit it every night when we turn in and we are asleep before the CD ends.

It's gotta be quieter than the drunk guests stumbling past the open door of our cabana at Copal.

Work was more fun in the past when the computer took longer to compile my programs  .

Back at it.

Lee, that's my understanding of the layout as well. I didn't think the numbers went up as high as 9 and 11, though. Are there any two-floor units on that left side of the /\ ? I think so - looks like there are from Minnie's pic. DUh, I just saw your reference to the "double slightly inland." I oughtta read slower! :) So that'd be 6 & 7, and 8 would be next door. Is that the only double on that side?

Here are the pics on Tita's website:

http://www.titatulum.com/cabins.html

Looks like #6 is the upstairs unit behind "Dan's Cabana," and #7 the ground floor, then 8 is next door and 9 is the one directly across from the restaurant?

I have to say, I was not ready for the surf sound. I have meditation CDs with ocean sounds that were more lapping and lulling. Maybe it was the March winds, but I am guilty of asking 'when will it stop?' . The answers; get just on the other side of the dunes. Simple really.

I gotta admit, It did keep me awake the very first night of my first trip..but, I dream about that roaring sound..and wish I was there to hear it every single day. After the first night, I slept more soundly than I every do at home. I am with Dan..aaahhhaaa...so this seems an odd reason to me to change accomodations..but, at the same time, I can well understand that everyone has their own likes and dislikes and I am glad that there is something in Tulum for everyone's personal taste and needs..except for those AI type places..they need to stay to the north.

Tulum in my heart is the more rustic, the better. I don't want or need electric. Tulum for me is as close to the water and the roaring of the sea at night as I can get. I get that these can be the very reasons that some people would search out different lodging. To each his own..as long as I see a thumbs up in a trip report..I know it means another satisfied customer, and that is what really matters when a person is on vacation.

I also agree with Dan..for $200 a night...well, you know. Cheap is better for me..lol! Another reason I have loved Tulum is that I can vacation there for a week and not break the bank or my budget. That means more trips to paradise for me!:D
