Taxi from Cancun to Tulum?

Have a question about getting from the airport to Tulum.
I havn't arranged any transfers and was figuring I'd just get a taxi. Is this a good/bad idea? How much should I expect to pay - and are US dollars or pesos preferred? Not really interested in taking the bus either since I'll be getting into Cancun rather late in the afternoon... so at this point it's either a transfer vs. taxi. Thanks!
note: I'm not really interested in renting a car since I plan on spending most of my time relaxing on the beach! :)

We rented a car, but, next trip,I will take the bus, very inexpensive..it will arrive at the bus station in town..catch a cab from there to the beach, about $3US one way.

I think the cost of a taxi from Cancun is around $50, and I don't think you can catch one at the airport, somekind of rule where they can only bring passengers departing Cancun. You would have to leave the airport by shuttle and get a cab elsewhere.

Take a shuttle to the bus station in Cancun, for $50, you will have round trip to Tulum and money left over for more Cervesa!
