Hello again, all
I am so in the habit of just lurking, that I forget to post, even if it's just to say HI!
So, HI!
Twenty-two days and counting until we leave for Tita Tulum, and a few questions:
Does Tita Tulum have beach towels or should I bring some?
Are there real doors on the bathroom (Beachreader got me thinking about that one)?
How much would you suggest tipping the maid each day? I'm thinking about giving it all to her at the start but I'm worried that it won't be the same person every day. (We're there for 7 days)
Is Hechizo walking distance via the beach? Or should one drive? We will have a car. I just prefer to walk just about everywhere I go at home.
Thanks thanks thanks
I so want to be in Tulum, even if it is drip, drip, drip, melting fast here.

Hi patmex...glad you came from out of the shadows! http://www.33smiley.com/smiley5/everyday/19.gif
We stayed at Tita Tulum for 7 nights in December. We were in Cabana Caracol (which I believe is #9 though they changed their numbering system when we were there)...

I'll try to tackle your questions...
Beach towels are available (you have to ask at the restaurant which doubles as their check-in area) but we never used them. We only spent a couple of hours at the beach - we both suffer from severe wanderlust and cannot sit still for long - so our normal room towels did the trick.
There was a full-length wooden door on our bathroom. As you walked through the front entrance, the bathroom sink was to the left (under the left-most window in the above-photo). The shower and toilet were in a seperate "room" in the back left section of the building. The door (not sure if it locked or not because we never used it) is between this room and the sink area.
We tipped our maid every day. I believe their were two different people cleaning during the duration. We felt it was better to spread it out rather than leave money all at once, either upfront or as we left. There didn't seem to be any relation to the quality (extra towels, cleanliness, towel art, etc.) and the tip. We left a few bucks each day.
Heczio is a pretty far walk from Tita Tulum (close to four miles roundtrip). We walked one night on the beach road from TT to Las Ranitas - about half the distance - and then back via the beach. Walking is nothing new for us as we typically walk several miles a few times a week (gotta keep my girlish figure somehow) and have hiked parts of the Appalachian Trail and a good portion of Yosemite. Maybe it was the margaritas or the give of the sand, but it was a tough walk home. I'd definitely recommend the car for such a nice meal.By the way, if you haven't had a chance to read my four-part trip report (it's buried several pages back), you can find them here:
For the first two days of the report, please click: http://www.tulum.info/showthread.php?t=555 (http://www.tulum.info/showthread.php?t=555)
For days three and four of the report, please click: http://www.tulum.info/showthread.php?t=561 (http://www.tulum.info/showthread.php?t=561)
For days five and six of the report, please click: http://www.tulum.info/showthread.php?t=572 (http://www.tulum.info/showthread.php?t=572)
For days seven and eight of the report, please click: http://www.tulum.info/showthread.php?t=586
It may provide some additional info on Tita Tulum.
Enjoy!!

Thanks, Lee!
We'll definitely drive to Hechizo.
I'm glad about the biffy doors, too, as we'll have a rather modest almost-11-year-old boy with us.
I CAN'T WAIT! Although it's a lot closer now than when I booked it back in June.
And, yes, I've definitely read your trip reports.GREAT work.

Just be careful if you walk Boca Pila road at night, it is very dark and the Taxis go much faster since the road is paved, when we were there back in August we walked the beach a few times to dinner but at that time with the turtles laying there eggs you were not allowed to use a flashlight unless it had a red lens, by the way bring a small pocket flashlight they always come in handy. Never a towel problem and we tip at the begining now as we have been there numerous times and my wife has become friends with the older women who does the rooms, she gives my wife lessons on how to make all the little animals out of towels that they put on your bed, now she does the same on our bed at home!

Thanks all!
I noticed on Tita's website that the rates have gone up on each of the cabanas about $15-$20 a day.
I wonder if we'll be paying the higher rate, or the lower rate that Tita quoted me when we made reservations? Anybody had a similar case?
I'm not worried. I'm just wondering.
I so can't wait.
20 days.

Patmex - I would make sure you take your copy's with you of your emails - which I am sure you were already planning on doing - be sure to take more than one, cause if they take the one & then lose it?? Just trying to stay ahead of the shell game - but I don't think Tita plays that way - I have heard nothing to suggest she won't honor the quote you recieved.

Hey guys!!!!!
Wow, it's really wierd to be over here in a forum dedicated to JUST Tulum! It's great!
Ya already had your questions answered, so I don't need to add my two cents. I was there just a month before AdGuy, and wish I'd thought to ASK for a beach towel. DUH. We bought a couple in town, figuring they'd make good souvenirs. Just sorta assumed they'd be provided in the rooms!
As for the tipping - I tipped every day. Left a little note in very bad spanish to say hello and provide our names and to say thanks -- so they'd know it was a tip for them.
Anyway, guess I'll say hello and introduce myself in a new thread. But wanted to say, Tita Tulum was wonderful. I wish I was there right now!

Hi Phyllis,
Welcome to "my other home away from home". This board started out slowly but has really been picking up steam. I suppose that now many folks are finding out about the magic we all know as Tulum.
Welcome aboard,
Dan

Hey Dan!
Thanks for the welcome.... I'll definitely be stoppin' by here more often. I'm still loco, but I think there's something that bonds the Tulum folks together in a different and very cool way so I'm glad to be here..... Sure do think it would be really neat if we could all coordinate a trip sometime! Course, apparently MinniMex and I were there at the same time last year and I didn't even know it!!!!

Tita will charge you the lower rate at the time of your booking.

I've met Tita and found her to be a sharp person. She'll no doubt honor the lower rate (she'd recognize the potential for bad publicity) but bringing your paperwork is an excellent suggestion. At times she is away and you may be dealing with someone else.

Hey all you folks that have recently been to Tita's,
I see on her site that there is a new cabana, referred to as #7 "Coral". Where in her layout is this cabana? The site says "In front of beach".
We have reserved #5, which is the one facing directly to the beach. I am curious as to where this new cabana is?
Thanks all,
Dan

Huh, that's interesting, Dan. There certainly was no new building going up when we were there in Nov., but I wonder if they added another second floor room to one of the existing ones?

I might be wrong, but I think they added the room to the end of the row back from #5 - I think it looked like they were cleaning it out when we were there & it may have been an office before?? Just my guess looking at the site -

YES!!!! Minnie is right. I sorta remember the same thing - but wasn't sure if they were just cleaning one of the regular rooms. But I think you're right MM.

The room next to the one we stayed in (to the right of the photo) is for rent...it's across from the restaurant. There is another room to the right of that one...it's Tita's office.

When I was looking to book in December, Tita said that I could have the room next to her office. It didn't sound like a regular room at the time, guess they've formalized it now?
