Gale,
I'm going to try surf fishing this time down.
There is suppose to be good fishing right off the beach and from the bridge on the south beach road.
When are you going down there?

Sadly for all of us, Gale hasn't been around TI for a long long time. We miss her. :(
But Margo might know of some good spots for ya. Hope she chimes in...

Wow, it looks like it has been a year so Gale has posted. I used to always enjoy her posts. I guess maybe at some point we find other things. Maybe new people or lurkers (lurkers is not a bad word:)) need to step up and start contributing more. Not that I contribute that much! I mostly ask questions. We have such a great board here, it really helps people with their vacation ideas and reassures them with their decisions. I wonder if a review section rather than a trip report section on this site would be better. Less pressure!

Wow.....this really is an old thread ( posted 3 1/2 years ago)....I didn't know we could archive back this far. Good to know.
I agree with Phyllis.....ask Margo.....she's a great local resource!!!!

you can just fish from the shore or the bridge. it sounds like you need an excuse to get waist deep, just do it.
I will say that the flyfishing in the lagoons of Sian Ka'an is PRIMO. catch and release if you can as the environment is fragile. but mostly have fun.
inside the reef is nice to line fish for some small edible fish, and outside the reef is PRIMO also. the Marlin, the Dorado, and so much more.

Right now fishing at the bridge is not very good. The inlet to the ocean is blocked by a sandbar, so there is no more lagoon to sea flow, the water is stagnant, so not many fish passing through.
An old guy in Punta Allen said it happened once before about 20 years ago.

:wave:Here I am, been kind of busy for a few days!
So, yes there are lots of great fishing places in the Biosphere, and most of what I learned about surf fishing I learned from X Dan!
and if I'm not mistaken, I think I've answered this question somewhere before.....:p
