Hi, everyone!
I thought I'd give a little info about us...I just retired on Nov 1st...yipee! My wife Jackie and I celebrated our 36th anniversary in Mexico last year. It was only our second trip to Mexico as we always vacationed in the US...never saw a reason to go elsewhere. Actually, I am a long time Harley rider, so we mostly went to motorcycle rallies and gatherings, we always had a wonderful time at Sturgis every year.

We will continue to spend most of our time here, close to friends and family, but will also go somewhere warm for part of every winter, and right now that is going to be Tulum.

We stayed in a little hotel in Playa for a week this year and a less than wonderful experience, the beaches and La Quinta Avenida are just too crowded and commercialized for us...really the same reason we quit going to motorcycle rallies. However our second week was at Excellence Riviera in an ocean front room in the Excellence Club section and it was just perfect.

One of our day trips brought us to Tulum (after visiting the Monkees at the Jungle Place) and we both realized instantly that it was the place for us...too bad I already had the rest of our trip booked. The beautiful beaches and uncrowded everything were wonderful.

I'll be around with plenty of questions I'm sure as I plan this years trip.

Congratulations on your retirement, Chet! One year from now my husband and I will be joining your club. I wish you all the happiness you have certainly earned and think you will be more than satisfied with a future trip to Tulum. This forum is certainly a great place to start. Good luck! (by the way, I grew up in your neighboring state--Arkansas. My brother lived in Van Buren, Mo. He passed away a year ago but his family is still there. Missouri is a beautiful state.)

We love Tulum so much we are building a home in Los Arboles. I have travelled the world and nothing compares to the gorgeous coral white sand/ quiet beaches and the reef right there. Plus walking and biking trails. We are planning to live there 6months and return to Canada. The boutique hotels offer the ocean or the pueblo downtown old mexican town being safe and we walk around at all hours. Retirement is so grand as we know. Congrats.
