Have been gathering info for the past few weeks for our stay at Villas H2O in Feb (8th-17th) Haven't been to Tulum since 1985! For the past 10 years or so, have been to Zihuatanejo a few times, Isla Mujeres a few times, and about 8 years ago we stayed at a long gone eco resort south of Puerto Morelos .. can't remember the name, but they closed it up and moved south a few years ago to their sister resort. Anyway - looking forward to our trip and hopefully meeting up with folks .. probably at Ziggys.

Found Villas H2O online - and researched it on Trip Advisor. It's a rather new (4 years or so) small boutique hotel, located in the SW corner of the pueblo. Supposed to be very nice but only $95/night. Mini bars in the rooms, pool, private, quiet. So it'll be beach time during the day, restaurants in town at night. At least that's the plan.... Tulum in the early 80's WAS special.

Hola Mudslide,
I miss Zihuatanejo. But I can't bear to not see the turquoise water of the Caribbean either. I wish I could have both places together. I love the people and the food Of Zihua.
What has it been like there the last couple years?

Hi Mudslide. A friend of mine owns Villas H2O. I think you'll be very happy with your choice. The property is immaculate and is so conveniently located while still maintaining a sense of privacy and tranquility when you pass through the gate. Enjoy your trip!

We were staying south of Zihua on Playa Blanca at Hotel Las Palmas... Very nice, about half way down the beach towards Barra de Potosi. This hotel is remote, quiet, and beautiful. We would cab-it into Zihua a couple days/trip. The city of Zihua is excellent, but growing. Never went into Ixtapa, too many large all inclusives for our tastes. Los Gatas (beach via boats) was fun and cheap. Good restaurants in Zihua, but Hotel Las Palmas also served excellent meals, so we stayed there for the most part. We would use their bikes and ride down the beach to Barra de Potosi for fab seafood, cheap beers, and swimming in the calm waters. Playa Blanca was way too dangerous for swimming, but wonderful to watch the waves come crashing in. Las Plamas has a very nice infinity pool... The owners (from Phoenix) want to grow it with timeshares, so I doubt that it'll be the same as we remember it. It's Tulum Time!

Thanks for the info. We hope that we made a good choice! Being close (walking distance) to the restaurants/bars can't hurt. The Trip Advisor reviews are all good, so we are very excited about this small hotel. We'll have to plan for the costs of cabs to get to the beach and back every day, but we are thinking about renting some scooters for a day or two....which should be a lot of fun.

We use to go to Las Brisas Del Mar.
Stayed in Ixtapa once. Zihua has it's charm.
Tulum time is good!

Can you believe that we have no snow, and it's been rather balmy? What part of Mn are you from?

Buffalo, MN. And I am L O V I N G every second of this balmy weather!!! (What do you think?)
I think we are suppose to get a bit of snow tonight. I will take any amount of time w/o the snow, though. Just one day closer to next trip in April and one day closer to spring.
Where is Alex?

Half way between Mpls and Fargo.... on I-94. NW of St Cloud. Yes this weather is good for all of our heating bills etc., but I miss the snow - as I like to cross-country ski in the state parks around here.

Don't forget collectivos as an alternative to cabs - from town to the beach normally costs about 10 pesos. You'll see a collectivo motor by about every 10 minutes, just wave 'em down like a taxi!
