Hi. I'm in Tulum off and on until April. I'm on a dissertation grant, so the budget is limited, but I am interested in any cultural activities/must-dos around the area. I've been to all of the highlights (Puuc Route, Merida, Valladolid, PDC, Akumal, Coba, Ek Balam, Tulum Ruins) so if anyone has questions about those I'd be willing to swap stories. I think I'm going to have to contact Margo soon and see if her massages fit the grad student budget.
Also, if anyone knows of a credible Mayan language teacher, I'd be interested...will swap for English lessons if desired.

Minniemex, I wish...I'm on a graduate student fellowship budget - mostly eating sandwiches at home. Also, I'm spending 75% of that time out in a pueblo. Tulum is just "home base".

I'm working on how traditional diet and its associated traditions are changing with increased globalization and religious conversion.

Sounds intriguing, how far back into history are you researching? Assuming you are studying the Mayan traditions will you look back into the Spanish Conquest as the start of globalization or are you studying the modern era which likely has a much more rapid and deeper effect.
Either way if you end up publishing something at the end of your studies please post a link here.

Preliminary findings from my Master's report can be found online through UT libraries and a summary version will be coming out in Vol. 15.1 of Food, Culture and Society. A journal published by Berg.
