I just returned from my ultimate ten day vacation in Mexico. The 1st four nights were spent at NVR in Tulum and the last six nights were spent at La Amada in Playa Mujeres. I won't really give a detailed trip report since it'd be really boring (eat, sun, drink...repeat) so instead I figured I would give some info on what I though stuck out for our trip. I hope you enjoy and don't criticize too much for our lack of adventure .
Room/Beach
The room was wonderful and wasn't very rustic, which was a good thing for me. While it was hot we were still able to sleep. The beach set up at NVR is fantastic. A bed, 2 chairs and a table is more than enough but I loved having it all. It sure was an amazing feeling when we were able to look to the right, look in front, and then look to the left and not see a single person in sight. That one single moment is probably something we will always remember. We also saw some string rays in the water, which we have never seen before.
Beach Service/Ice
Beach service was almost nonexistant. I guess I figured they would send someone around periodically so I'm not sure if I had a misconception with this. On our 1st full day we didn't have any cold beer of our own so we were just going to use the beach service. Beach service is supposed to start at 10 and after 12 we went to the concierge to request it. The rest of the days they only came around once, which was around 2 and that's when we ordered lunch. We had our own beer those days so it worked for us. While we thought the beach service wasn't great it won't deter us from going back. Since we didn't have a car we actually found the hassle of finding ice even worst. So we both agreed that when we go back we will stick with the beach service for all of our drinks. We really are about convience so even if we have to go across the street to the restaurant to refill our bucket of beer I think it will be better than getting in a taxi and going to town for a bag of ice.
Food
Continental breakfast was wonderful. We ordered breakfast one morning and we both enjoyed our egg dishes. We wanted to try Casa Bananas on our last night but didn't want to experience the heat so we passed. We ate at Om twice and had there pizza both times. The Om pizza was amazing and stuck out the most. We also tried the pizza at Zamas and that was wonderful also. If I had to rank them it would be Om's Om pizza, followed by Zamas pizza (I can't even remember what it was) and then Om's choriza pizza last. We also ate at La Zebra one night and that was good also. Nothing outstanding, but it was good. We had guacamole almost everywhere and of course that was always good. We also ordered mussels on the beach at NVR and loved them. I was really bummed when we didn't go there for dinner the last night so I could get them again.
I also can't forget about La Zebra's mojitos. The watermelon one was so good and I kept going back for more. I was bummed on our last night when they were closed for a wedding and I wasn't able to get one last mojito. I guess it's just one more reason to come back.
One thing I'd like to mention for others that might me concerned about this is my super sensitive skin. I break out in a rash from the sun and I was even more worried about not being able to shower in fresh water. The only bad thing was not really ever feeling clean from the salt water showers, but I can live with that. My normal heat rash that I should have developed after day 1 didn't even show up until day 4. When we went to the all inclusive it definitly got worse so I think it has something to do with the AC. In Tulum the 24 hour heat made me sweat and kept my pores open while the AC in Playa Mujeres blocked them at night.
Overall we enjoyed our lazy sun filled time at NVR. If we had to pick (and believe me they were both perfect resorts) I preferred our normal route of the all inclusive and DH preferred Tulum so I guess we're stuck with taking 10 day vacations from now on .
