Hello Friends!

Call me Tomas =D I'm wrapping up all of my business here in the US and preparing to hop on the plane to be in Tulum by May - ticket's already purchased for end of April and will have a few days with friends before I arrive at my very own palapa. Turned in my notice at work, sold the boat, in the process of selling the car, along with a variety of other small ticket items and trying to not bounce off the walls with excitement. I've been doing the corporate thing for a decade and am ready for a slow-down, Kenny Chesney style. I'll be embarking on a business venture with friends and taking care of a small rental-palapa-village in Tulum. My puppies will be joining me on this adventure and I plan on staying until I'm ready to go, which will probably be a *long* time. Can't wait to immerse myself in the Mayan culture and meet new friends, as well as adopt new interests.

What can I say, I'm about to turn 27 and I had a mid-life crisis. After careful consideration, I decided that instead of living my life to work until retirement, then maybe enjoy a few years, I'd rather satisfy what Steinbeck called, "The Itch". The itch for something different...so...I'm getting rid of all my worldly possessions I thought were important, stepping completely out of my comfort zone and preparing to reinvent myself and embrace the notion of work hard / play hard!!

I'm impressed with the number of active folks on this site and look forward to future chats with you all!! While I've done more research and fielded more questions to friends currently there than you could shake a stick at, I welcome any suggestions you have that may ease my relocation. As soon as we get the website up for the property, I'll share it with you and hope to win some of your business for those of you that will be coming down with a round-trip ticket.

Cheers,

-Tomas

I too had to laugh at "mid-life crisis" at the age of 27! I am totally envious of you moving there. I hope everything turns out for you and even if it doesn't, you will always know that you gave it your best shot.

We will be happy to hear from you and hopefully turn some business your way.

Best of luck to you!

:wave:I'm at 4 and a half years here, and have never been happier in my entire happy life. :o

Good idea, coming with a job and resources makes it a much easier transition. I will forever be grateful that Xamach Dos was without a manager when I tried to book my vacation there! I do often say I wish I'd had the vacation FIRST, then the job, but it all worked out.

Let me know if you need any help vecino, and start practicing your Spanish!:sun:

Congrats Thomas!!! I am very happy for you. Be glad you figured this out at 27. I figured it out at 41 and have enjoyed living here in Tulum for over a year now. I look forward to drinking a beer with you when you arrive. Best wishes.

Probaly his girlfriend dumped him !

Tomas I do like your thoughts about "Living my life to work until retirement". If I was running things, I' set it up that after school/collage, you would go on social Security until age 35, then join the work force and work till you die!

I wish you well, and look forward to meeting! I'll join you and Tim for a beer!

Hey Everybody! Thanks for all the positive replies - things are definitely moving quickly in the states, just gotta keep my priorities lined up and continue to knock out these milestones. The property is under new ownership and my friends are still in the process of naming the place...I'll leave it at that for now, exciting things are in store though so stay tuned =) Tim, you can absolutely count on a celebratory beer upon arrival. All for now so I hope you all are having a great week and I look forward to future chats.

*It should be noted as playa suggested that this is *not* the result of a woman, lol. I even got rid of a good one to make the trip. It's my destiny (in a John Locke kinda way, for all you Lost fans)!
