I would prefer to use my propane camp stove rather than my kerosene one, but I don't want to try to put propane in my luggage.

Why don't you just buy a grill when you are down there? You can pick up this model for around $15. It's made out of a tire rim and some re-bar. Carbon is available at the San Fransisco. You can give the grill away when you leave.

That's a good idea, SteveO. Another option is to buy supplies when you get there. You'll likely be traveling through PDC on your way to Tulum from the Cancun airport. Wal-Mart and Mega both carry a wide assortment of grills, propane tanks, and other cooking/camping supplies.

I like charcoal for BBQ, but I need a small camp stove to cook hot dogs and stuff for my 6 year old son and coffee for me while we're at El Mirador. If I did buy a BBQer made from a tire rim and re-bar, I don't see how I could live without packing it up and getting it home somehow. That would be a really cool souvenir. Thanks for the info. I'll probably buy one at Mega.
