Time to get to the trip report! More pictures than text for this report. We have been to Tulum several times, and beach gravity was heavy. This time, we split time between La Zebra, a favorite spot, and Betulum, the new place. Some comments on both, although this is not intended to be a side-by-side comparison. La Zebra has a wider stretch of beach and more space on its property which makes time at the beach really nice. La Zebra is more centrally located. Betulum's property is narrow and this limits its beach area. Betulum is further south. Both have good restaurants and beach service for drinks and lunch. La Zebra has its Sunday salsa party which is always fun. Betulum has a pool, and all of its rooms have either a small pool with first floor rooms, or large tubs for second floor rooms. Both allow guests to charge meals and drinks to their rooms, and pay at the end of their stay. Betulum does not require you to even sign a ticket for a meal or drink during your stay. Betulum had really exceptional service for guests.
Here a few pics for starters:

Second installment: We had a good week of weather, although Friday was both cloudy and very windy which pushed us off the beach and into a couple of beach restaurants for mostly reading during the afternoon. We started each day with a run or long walk on the beach. One morning we ran and walked a long way into the Sian Kaan. We saw a couple of the small beach houses near Tulum being used. We ran into one large group of locals sweeping and cleaning the beach. They worked on a long stretch of beach during the time we passed them going south and then back north. Running barefoot on the beach is one of my favorite things to do in Tulum. Then after the run, a leisurely breakfast, followed by relaxing on the beach. Beach gravity usually had us in its clutches by that point.

Betulum has a pool, and all of its rooms have either a small pool with first floor rooms, or large tubs for second floor rooms
What are the dimensions on the pools the each room has?
Oh and by the way thanks for trip reports with lots of pics!!! Don't know when we will get back down and since we are not there now it will be too long.

The sizes of the pools at Betulum varies depending on the room. The shapes are different too. At least one room has an indoor-outdoor pool. I would say most are about 4x6 feet. The pools had ledges in the pool to sit on and jets. I took pics of several of the pools. I'll post them separately.

How far down the path is J7? Did you miss having a view of the ocean from your room at Be, or did you enjoy the jungly greens just as much?
The upper double room the Minnies and I saw was really lovely, like a treehouse with all glass walls with jungle pressing in on all sides, but I would have missed the water.
This is your second stay at the Beach Shack at La Zebra, right? Was it just as good the second time around? Did you hear anything on when they'll build another one? I thought they were supposed to be putting in a whole bunch of them at one point.

J7 is about half way between the entrance at the beach road and the beach. We did miss the beach view. I missed the sound of the waves more. All the rooms at Betulum have air conditioning which is a nice option and pretty necessary given the property layout. We stayed on a couple of rooms there so we got the beach view in room 19 right behind the main pool for a couple of nights.
It was our second stay at the beach shack. Heard and saw nothing to indicate additional shacks would be built soon. That would change the experience there. We really liked the shack this time too. It has great ventilation and one large window facing the ocean for the view and the sound of the waves.

Indoor-outdoor pool at Room 1.
You can turn on the jets and sit in the pool in your room. You can also swim under the glass walls to go to the outside portion of the pool.

On the pool at Room 1, guests can sit in the pool in the room or swim under the glass walls to go outside. There are separate plexiglass doors in the water under the wall of the room. Interesting concept.

Great pictures & video!! I really love being able to hear the ocean too! The last time down we were in a casita and couldn't hear the ocean. I did miss it too!
I read that there has been a "brigada de limpieza" working in the the Sian Kaan. I was reading on a facebook page where they had cleaned 20 kilometers of beach in the biosphere. What a wonderful thing!

Breakfast and lunch were very good. A continental breakfast is included with the room. There were traditional Mexican dishes for breakfast and lunch. I kind of stick to granola and yogurt for breakfast, but I saw other guests get a variety of egg dishes, including one large egg dish with all kinds of things added into it that the servers all raved over. Dinner was a little smaller menu. We only ate dinner there one night. I had the fresh fish, which I had seen a fisherman deliver from the ocean earlier in the day. Sorry, I never remember to take food pics, and I forgot about getting a picture of the menu. I still have more pics to post and I will see if I have a shot that shows some dish randomly.

Chuck
All the room sat Betulum have A/C. It works really well. On each of the walls, one of the glass panes slides to the side to make a large open window. There is a screen so you could leave that open. I do not think there would be much breeze on the ground floor rooms where we stayed. There might be some on the upper floors. But most of the rooms are on the inland side of the dune. We relied on the A/C at night.

Thanks Heenan!!
Those scoupy little white chairs look difficult to get out of. For me anyways.;)
Room 19 seems like it at least had a beach view!

Had one more pic I wanted to post to close out this trip report.
From our last night on the trip: the moon on the water through the trees.
The moon was quite brilliant that night.

Wow that last picture is gorgeous! Thanks for the great pics inside your room and the property of betulum.... I'm very enticed, love the look and feel and vibe coming through, just not sure how to handle that it's farther back from the water.... but WOW, thanks for sharing!! :)

I always love your trip reports and photos. Great job reporting on two properties, that we don't hear much about.

Thanks so much for sharing. I love it when we get to hear and see about new properties. That moon-glow pic is beautiful.
I looked online via Google and couldn't find a website for BeTulum. Please help! :)
