Hey all,
I'm a blues musician, and will be traveling to Tulum with one of my guitars between 1/1 and 1/6. I'm mostly going to be lounging around at the cheap end of the beach, but am also interested in finding a bar/club/etc that could use some good live blues while I'm in the Tulum area.
Know of any bars/clubs that might be interested?
Thanks!
Shamus
p.s. you can check my solo stuff out at www.myspace.com/sphoganblues

Are you hoping to be paid or just jam with others?

Hmm... Well, not looking to get paid, and I'm also not really looking to jam with others either (at least in regards to this thread). Just looking for some place that has an audience who might be interested in having a guest solo blues musician perform.

Cool, there are a few actually but Xamach Dos would be happy to have you come by. I'll feed ya, give ya a few cervasas and a hamaca if ya play for my guests. Lemme know when you are here, I can pick you up.
I hope you are accoustic, we do not have an amp or mic.

Great!! Thanks Ron! I actually will have an electric with me, as well as a very small travel amp. It's got pretty good tone, and I can easily sing over it...so I think it makes for a better show than just acoustic. If that's cool with you, then I'd love to play for your guests.
If you pm me your phone number, I'll give you a call when I get to town.
Also, do you own the Xamach Dos? I just checked the website out, and it looks amazing!

I am from Austin Texas and I was raised on live music. I am happy to see this connection happening. I hope you hit it off and return often to spice up this town. we used to joke that every night was the same old reggae band and it just got old quick.
thank you for bringing your instrument. even if I don't make it, I want you to know that I support all live music in Tulum.

You can try Hotel Crucero, near the parking lot to the ruins. They had a guy from CA playing for the guests, using a cheap wal-mart guitar. I have a feeling you'd be very welcomed. Maybe a trade for board.

Right on, Chamba!
Austin is a great city! I used to live there when I was 19... worked at Frank & Angies for a while. Had a blast during that time! So much music every night...24 bowling alleys... parties at Lake Travis. And for some reason, I loved Lone Star Beer... but years later had one that didn't taste like I remembered it (haha).
Ever heard of a band called Gorch Fock? They're some of my good buddies... they're all Austin Locals.

dont know Gorch Fock, but there are too many bands here to expect that. I love Frank n Angies pizza. Lake Travis how cool is that? did you swim in Barton Springs?
I tell Austinites that my new barton springs is Grand Cenote.
Lone Star! we call that the armadillo. and we have Shiner Texas brewin up some good beer, in fact many local brews have popped up, a good new one is the Firemans.
This is a great city, and many people that go to Tulum are from, or have spent some time in, Austin. they are similar in their laidback attitude, natural setting and activities, and high rating on the Hip-ometer.
I always brag, show up to Austin anytime and name your music, it is playing somewhere in this city. Punk, jazz, blues, rock, hip-hop, reggae, folk, country are all on the menu nightly. My type of person is one who accepts all music, cause in this town you really can try it all.
I love reggae, but every night will spoil it? I sincerely hope that more live music gets infused into Tulum culture. and thank you for doing your part.

:wave:I LOVE LIVE MUSIC!!! I'm sure we can hook you up....Let's pm and let me know what days you have open, and I'll find you places to play! Day and Night! One of the things that I think is missing here in Tulum is just nice music during the day....not loud, just good music.
this week starts the live music in Tulum....Many of the musicians leave town for the summer and they are slowly trickling back in this year...should all be here by New Years.
Bandikoro tonight at Zamas....:eat-drink:

ME TOO!!
Nothing like listening to some good blues while hangin' on a gorgeous beach with a cocktail in hand.
Margo can make it happen!!! Can you stick around until our March trip??

Wish I could stay in Mexico until March... but unfortunately, this is going to be a short trip. I'm flying in on 1/1... and flying out on 1/6. That's all the time I can take off from my day job right now.
These next couple days are going to go by so slowly!! I can't wait to step outside of that airport in Cancun and feel the heat. It was snowing on my way to work today.
