We're headed down for our anniversary this coming November and I really want to surprise my bride with a massage. For awhile Cheryl went once a month for a massage, but other priorities have made them a rare occurrence, so I really want to surprise her with this special gift while on vacation. Margo, I have seen in other posts that you are a masseuse so I was hoping you would post some details about the service you offer.

:wave:The short answer is YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would love to give your lovely wife a massage when you are here in Tulum.
So, I guess this is my opportunity to come out of the closet as a masseuse! I have made the choice to make Massage my main priority here in Tulum and am SUPER EXCITED! Bob and Bonnie are coming back to Casa de las Palmas soon, and so I’ve decided this high season, rather than manage another place, (I have lots of offers!) I’m going to do massage and tours full time..........
So, PM me your dates and we’ll coordinate how to super surprise your wife.

Thanks for the quick response, Margo.
Great news, I was hoping this would work out! Didn't want to just stop by somewhere as we are walking the beach and suggest she get a massage. She might balk at that where setting up an appt. in advance will be a surprise. Hmmm...
Couple of questions for you:
What type of massage is your specialty?
How long have you been a masseuse?

Congrats on your brilliant move to have your own business!!! Managing properties pretty much takes up a lot of your life, doesn't it?!
Sooooooo, where are you thinking of setting up? Will you be portable and take your table to your clients? Will you serve margoritas?? :D

I agree, taking your chances at the spas is not always a great idea....I've heard that there are some great therapists, but how do you know who you'll get! I recently had a massage by someone that works at the biggest spa in town, and the best part was when it was over, the whole thing was very painful. I do NOT believe in painful massage. And EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!
Couple of questions for you:
What type of massage is your specialty?
How long have you been a masseuse?
:wave:People often ask “what type of massage do you offer” and that is not an easy question to answer. My massages are very relaxing, and very deep without being painful. Sometimes very spiritual, other times very educational. I have a basic Swedish routine but beyond that, what my hands do is magic, and I have no idea what is going to happen next! It is a very intuitive experience based on what the client wants and needs.
I have been studying healing and energy work for around 25 years. I am a Reiki Master, a Registered Nurse and Licensed Massage Therapist with current licenses in Washington State.
My basic training was a year at the Tricities School of Massage in Eastern Washington and was fabulous. Basic Swedish like all other massage therapists, but they also gave us a taste of many other varieties and have done further training in some of these and others I have come across over the years.
I owned a spa in a vacation town in Eastern Washington for years before moving to Mexico, so of course I can send you to heaven without saying one word............mmmmmmmmmm. I believe it is an honor to do so, such a spiritual thing to do.
Also in school and in my spa I got a lot of experience doing different spa treatments, such as exfoliation, mud wraps and scalp treatments.
But also at Healing Water Spa, I was licensed to accept insurance as payment for massage so did a lot of chronic pain work, and I guess you could say my real specialty is chronic pain. I am actually writing a book outlining the course of therapy that I used successfully with my clients there and am planning on doing some week long retreats with people that could speed up that process. I really just need four two hour sessions with someone to teach them the simple concepts they need to know about seriously diminishing or eliminating chronic pain. When else do you have time to really focus on your body than when you are on vacation!
My recommendation is kind of a combo massage, the first part is kind of getting to know each other, and I can teach you some basic things that help us feel better in these bodies now and in the future and then as the massage continues, it gets a bit more quiet and finally at the end you are gone to another world........ ahhhhhhhhhh.:sun:

I will be arriving in Tulum this Friday and staying through the following week. What does your schedule look like in terms of massages? Is it possible to get put on your calendar? My husband and I will also be celebrating an anniversary- our 1st! :) Do you have pricing that you can share?

Congrats on your brilliant move to have your own business!!! Managing properties pretty much takes up a lot of your life, doesn't it?!
Boy you got that right!!!!!!!
Will you serve margoritas?? :D Margoritas! Brilliant! I do have a lot of talents that I've picked up here in Tulum that will come in handy with my new freedom! Tequila educator, can I put that on a business card? I am a professional!
Sooooooo, where are you thinking of setting up? Will you be portable and take your table to your clients?
:wave:So, as to where, lots of options....
I am going to have access to a couple of really nice treatment rooms on the beach, and have already agreed to be the massage therapist for one of the hotels. I may also have a location in the Pueblo as well, but haven't got that totally nailed down yet, kind of depends on where I end up living.
But really I think the best way to get a vacation massage is at where you are staying. I have a very comfortable portable table, (one of the best investments I ever made), and everything else needed to turn your hotel or casa into a heavenly place. :)
I recommend relaxing and staying in after a massage to get the most benefits from it. Maybe take a shower and a nap, or a swim afterwards....try to plan it on a day when you don't have anything else planned.....Mmmmmmmmmmmm!:p:o:p

:wave:YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! You bet 1st timer! Consider yourself on the books! Many firsts for you! Welcome to Tulum!
Lets talk and figure out what the best time would be for you to get your massage.....you can email me at margoinmexicomassage at hotmail dot com (margoinmexicomassage@hotmail.com) and we can figure out the details. I have phones from Mexico and also USA so easy to get a hold of me to make the arrangements.
In terms of pricing, I hesitate to post publicly what my prices are, as they are likely to change depending on the season and other factors, but let me put it this way, they will be WAY cheaper than the big spas......!
Also, since it is your anniversary, will you both be getting one? I offer specials when two people in the same location get a massage!:p

Wow, this sounds really great for you, Margo! Congrats on this next phase. Personally, I love the idea of getting the massage done on one's own deck or room, that way you don't have to "wake up" enough to drive home!
For everyone, perhaps we should keep the specific arrangements and pricing and details to PMs or e-mails. Now that we know Margo's available for both massages and tours and such, we can reach out directly to her on our own.
And Margo, you might want to edit your new e-mail so the internet spam-bots won't find it. Maybe take the '@' and turn it into 'at' instead. Everyone knows how to adjust that, and it might save you some headaches down the road. (and keep your PM box clear! :p)

I had the experience of Margo in June. Wonderful massage on the 3rd floor rooftop of CdlP. It was total love and she had a d-lish mix of essential oils.
Now my husband, poor guy has the misfortune of being somewhat clumsy, and he had his head whacked by a boogie board and lost the feeling all the way down into his hand. Margo came to the rescue with her neuro-nurse experience and helped him out.
Regarding trips. I wish Margo had gone fishing with us, but she had errands to do that day. But she set up with a great trip that involved fishing and snorkling in a bay that nobody else was in - just us.
I'll call it fishing lite because the guide does all the work - bait, setting the lines out - you just reel 'em in. We caught a wonderful dorado (mahimahi) and 2 barracuda.

Moving this back over to the "General" section so that others can find the information!
We just had to decide what to do and as you can see we have started a "Tulum Services" thread, the same as we have for the hotels and the restaurants. Anyone please feel free to post to this thread if you have had some great service or if you have a service you want to provide. As soon as it has taken hold, we will move that thread over to the FAQ's section and stick it to the top. Why we didn't think of this before is a mystery!! We have excellent resources in Tulum and should be using them!

Anyone please feel free to post to this thread if you have had some great service or if you have a service you want to provide. We have excellent resources in Tulum and should be using them!I posted this same information in a trip report, but wanted to post it here as well since the massages we received from Margo definitely qualify as "great service!"
First a few photos:

We opted for each of us receiving a massage. That was such a good decision on my part. Not solely because I got to benefit from the sheer joy of the massage, but more that my wife and I were at the same place following our massages. These massages took us to a place that I first saw after Margo finished her session with my wife. Looking into her eyes and seeing the total relaxed look on her face was a sight I will never forget. I remember telling Maro "seeing the look on Cher's face was worth the total cost of the massages." Sounds cliche, but I really meant it as it was so obvious.
As you can tell by the one photo, Margo brought her table to the room where we were staying. She was a few minutes late, but was deeply apologetic. She said she was frantically trying to negotiate through "another parade" in Tulum to reach us at the designated time, but the parade made her a few minutes late. Well, that was impressive to me. This was a very professional experience.
Margo began each of our sessions by describing and demonstrating some self-massage techniques. Unlike many other new techniques I hear about, these ones have stuck and I'm still practicing them a couple weeks after our return from vacation.
Following that part of the session came the euphoria. It was as if Margo was gliding around the table while working on the muscles in my back, shoulders and legs. At one point I wasn't even sure where she was as all I could feel was the tension coming out of my muscles, but had no idea if she was standing near my head or to the side.
She had let me know that she would slip away at the end and for me to take whatever time I needed to get off the table after she was finished. I remember thinking "that's nice to say, but it's not like I'm gonna lay here afterward and make you wait on me." I needed a few minutes to come back. That's the only way I can describe it.
This was an anniversary trip for us, our 22nd. In all those anniversaries we have never given each other a gift that comes close to the relaxation this gift provided the two of us.
Thanks again, Margo!

:wave:Wowowow, thanks so much Manitou.....it was my pleasure....as usual, I get as much out of it as the clients! You and I had been planning this for a while, and it did come out pretty perfect. So great to meet you and Cheryl and an honor to be part of your celebration. You two are an inspiration.
I do offer to teach some things during massage, but leave it up to the client, I offer, and if they are into it, we go there, but if not, it is a quiet go to heaven time.
THe things I teach are things you can add to your daily life, not things you have to make an appointment for or set aside time for....but little things that will reduce and prevent chronic pain...I am working on a book about it now. When I first finished massage school I thought to write a book "how to fire your massage therapist" but decided that was pretty self defeating! I do believe how we feel is our own responsibility and that if we knew what to do, we'd do it! Makes me smile that you guys are still practiing these things!:)
Peace amigo, and FEEL GOOD!

Hey Margo,
This afternoon I was talking with a buddy about massage. Talked to him about the massage I had with you. As I was describing it, he wondered if it was a deep tissue massage. My reply was, "heck if I know, but man it sure felt good."
What I'm referring to was the last portion of the massage where I was laying on my stomach and you spent a lot of time standing near my head. Pretty sure you may have been on your stool, but you started on my shoulders and worked your way down my lower back. Thinking about it now is such a relaxing memory. Anyway, what type of massage is that?

Hey buddy, didn't see this before.....
I would have to say, Margo Style...allthough Heck if I know is a pretty good answer too! It seems that I have not met any one who does massage anything like what I do but would love to find some one so I could get one myself!
But really what I call my style is FEEL GOOD Massage! After years of study, practice and self massage, I just try to do the things that I think FEEL GOOD! I recently had someone describe my massage as thorough…which is also accurate, as I seem to get into nooks and crannies that I don’t see other therapists get into.
I do say that I do deep tissue, but then let them know that I do this by super relaxing them so that it is not painful. A relaxed muscle I can get all the way through, a tensed up in pain muscle means that we are both working too hard and I can’t get nearly as deep.
But one of the reasons you enjoyed that back stuff is that you were so relaxed at that point….I always start people on face up rather than face down...for many reasons...
one, the back, neck and shoulders are usually why people are on the table, so I want them as relaxed as possible before I get to the real work there...why would you want to start there?
two, people are often a little nervous, and it gives them a chance to relax a bit and even chat if they want before we get to the deep stuff.
three, it does feel good to be face in the hole for a short time, but I've had massages where they keep you face down for 45 minutes, and your head is so stuffed up you can't even breath! The best part of a massage like that is when it's over!
four, the face down part is the most relaxing, so why not have that be the last thing you remember....I often tip toe out and let people savor this feeling for a while before coming back to the real world!
Another unique thing that I do is my neck work. I do a good deep massage, but believe this shouldn't hurt if the muscles are sufficiently relaxed....so I work on the neck and shoulders like 4 different times through the massage each time getting a little bit deeper until I get all the way through....One of my tricks is working with the client laying on their sides! I can really get really deep that way, with less discomfort for the client and it is easy for me, using body mechanics rather than strength...not destroying my body is very important!
Same reason I use the stool....don't see many others doing this, but with the stool, I can keep the table higher to protect myself, but still get above you for the deeper pressure when needed. That down the back slide stuff you are talking about is not possible from the floor....and a wonderful wonderful experience!
So glad you enjoyed your massage so much Man, and thanks so much for your support!

I loved that side work! It felt so much deeper, and the whole massage felt more thorough, since I felt worked on from all angles, not just front and back.
And I really appreciated that the side work took the place of part of where others would have the client face-down. As Margo said, face down can be great, but too much of it makes my sinuses fill in and that's not so much fun.
And the four times revisiting the back thing is cool, too. It seems like Margo has taken years of training and getting and giving massages and just kind of fiddled with the process to make it all that much better!
Sorry, didn't mean to go on so, but as we know with trip reports, sometimes writing about something brings the memory back, and I needed a massage today. :)

Hey, all, I'd just like to make a brief plea that everyone make their massage reservations directly with Margo via PM or her e-mail, which is listed on the Tulum Services thread in the FAQ section.
It's one thing to talk about massages, especially wonderful ones, but this isn't a reservations service. At least, not anymore, please.
Thanks!

I just got to have one Margo's massages- After reading about them so much I was super excited. I got the "Feel Good" Massage. I have been on Medical disability for the past 6 years and was determined permanently disabled with hand injuries 4 years ago. They basically said, "Yep- you are broken- but this is a worker's comp case and you live in CA so... you are on your own. I hope you start to feel better" Since then I have just been living with the pain. My massage with Margo not only felt amazing, but she was able to really educate me on things my body was doing, ways to help it, and more of a retraining on the body. She game me ideas and insight that I had not had yet (after years of pt, OT, cortisone, and multiple surgeries) after the first part of talking I slipped into a total trance. You know that one that only happens with a really great massage or meditation.
After the massage and I came out of my little Margo induced coma. I felt so amazing. Even now after a few weeks I am still feeling the relief. And the pieces of advice that Margo gave me on ways I can adjust my body has made a big difference. I am really looking forward to my next session. If only I gotten this massage 6 years ago- I could have had a very different turn out today.

Hey Margo. :wave:You the massage that you gave me is still giving me relief. I am still doing all of the things that you taught me and it has made such a difference. I want to schedule a massage for my mom and dad when they are here. He had a serious back injury and was life flighted out of Cabo san Lucas about 3 years ago and has had trouble ever since.
If anyone could help him- you can. Can we schedule for later this week? I will pm you. Thank you for your amgical hands!!!!:sun:

Margo, my parents loved the massages you gave them yesterday at La Luna. Thank you so much. My step dad said that he could feel the difference immediatly. You are the best. Tulum is so lucky to have such a talented healer. My mom was so in aww watching you give Neal a massage and could see how much of yourself you put into the massage.

:wave:love you guys.....
Loved your parents Mindy, super fun people. We had quite a party at Zamas later that day too.....good times. the new rooms at La Luna make for great massage studios! The upstairs one has a few more stairs than I´d like, but I´m getting pretty good at hauling that table around!!!

Margo. Thank you for letting me come to your FEEL GOOD class. I have gotten a lot of the information before but in a different mediun when we were together but to sit in the class and hear it was very cool. It really helps to absorbe the information. Anyone coming down with a group of people that want massages... this is a really great option. you get all of the learning and information part in a fun and really funny class - and thanks to Om for the wonderful juice. Limonada made with oranges Naranjanada!!!! YUMMY!
Next time I have my family in town - we will do the class then all get our heavely rub down! Truely information that changes your whole outlook on how you approach your day and your life.
Thanks Margo!
