Ok, so after four trips, we finally set foot on south beach last night via la zebra for dinner. I tell the wife that a lot of folks like to beach crawl the south beach...she says she wants to do that...only problem is that being a road trip...we are due in Xcalak tomorrow, and for various other factors, we have to do it this afternoon (Thursday) if we want to get it in.

I am sooooo lost south of zamas...and have no intel as this is unplanned. We have a car, want to start about 3, and end up somewhere for dinner....

Where should we park, where should we eat? Help!

And remember I'm geographically challenged...I don't know where places are other than some of the main ones I've seen driving past...

Hola Mayaflyas!!! We walked from Ana y Jose south into Sian Kaan way past Hechizo......just remember you have to walk back! :D If you drive, just stop in at any beach club/restaurant to park. Here's a link from Sac-be re: Tulum beach clubs...that should help with logisitics. http://www.sac-be.com/beach_clubs_tulum_.shtml

As far as dinner, our favorite from last month was Ocho. It's romantic with tropical outdoor, beachfront decks.....fabulous water view...also a large indoor dining area. Our dinners were delicious with a beautiful presentation.

Have a great time as you continue your travels. I can't wait for another one of your wonderful trip reports, with pics!!!

Love Lynnette's idea!! There are so many places to stop!! First decide where dinner will be an then walk from there!! If you choose Ocho you can walk north and hit so many favorites!! Of course walking south, you will hit other favorites. No wrong choices ~ only a wonderful way to spend an afternoon & evening!!

Cheers!!

Maya - We have stayed at several places on the south end of the Tulum beach. La Zebra is a good lunch and beach spot. However, they have a sign that says their beach beds and chairs are reserved for La Zebra guests. Another lunch favorite of ours is Dos Ceibas which is just south of Las Ranitas. It is a small hotel and restaurant with shade. Last time we were there Las Ranitas looked more closed than open. It has several palapas that look to be be available to a beach walker. Further south, there were always open lounge chairs at Casa Magna, now Milamores. We stayed at Casa Sorteligio in Rancho San Eric last time and it has a palapa that is made of four posts and branches across the top. If no one is there, a beach walker could easily pause there for a rest. We have walked further south into the Sian Kaan and found nice spots, sometimes under palm trees and sometimes between fallen trees next to the dune. You could park at La Zebra and start your southerly walk there. Most of the hotels have signs along the beach. Hope that helps some. Enjoy your beach crawl.

I like it! Ocho tulum sounds perfect, and we can check out everybody's favorite from there. Thanks all!

At La Zebra, you can still sit outside at one of the tables and have lunch in the sand....or drinks. And pop into the water to cool off as needed.

I think what is often tricky is the lack of signage along the beach - I know La Z, Ocho and OM will have signs. But what about Dos Ceibas?

Dos Ceibas had a sign on the beach last November. It also has different looking palapas with the tops pulled up in a tall point.

:wave:It's an adventure.....go explore! If you find yourself far from your car, just get a cab back.......but remember where you parked it! After a pub crawl that can be a challenge!

Great advise everyone! :beerchug:

Who knows, I may just find an excuse to be at LaZ at 3!
