Is the occupancy level in late April such that one can just show up
and get a desirable cabana?

We are planning on traveling down to Tulum for 4 nights after a
short stay in PDC in late April. Los Lirios looks like a very nice
place, and the reports and reviews I've read in tripadvisor and
playa.info are generally favorable. I hate to pay in full, in advance,
to a broker I've never dealt with, but on the other hand, those
second story ocean view rooms look awful inviting.

During a somewhat quiet season, does it make sense to use a
broker, deal with the place directly, or just show up and personally
view what's available?

Anyone have any late April cabana experience?

thx

Spring can be very busy...we always go in Aug which in my opinion tends to be slower. There are lots of Cabana properties in Tulum, if you have your eye on one in particuliar I would reserve ahead. I did this in Aug for Copal and even bargined on the price via the web...I got the cabana I wanted.

We are low-budget, independent travelers, and will be visiting Tulum the first week of April. We have been going back and forth between 'book it now and be safe', or just wing it, and we have decided on the latter. Life is an adventure, right? I will check out as many places as possible as far as prices and availability, and post what we find.

I have not been to Tulum at this time,(late) but, it is at the end of high season, beginning of low season, and shouldn't be as crowded as it is in Feb or March..spring breakers should be back at school, and the holy week celebrations should be over..you shouldn't have too much of a problem, except if you want to stay at the better known places..I have not stayed at Cabanas Tulum, but, I have been told you can usually get a room here with little problem. If you wait until May 1st, the prices go down for most places along the hotel zone.
