Hey Gang,

I need your help. My wife and I will be in Tulum for eight days next month. We've visited several cenotes - Gran Cenote, Manati, Kantun Chi, Yalku Lagoon, and Dzitnup - but are looking to explore others. Specifically, I'm looking for information and experiences with any of these cenotes:

Sac Aktun
Cristalino
Escondido
Chac Mool
Ponderosa (El Eden)
Temple of Doom
Cristal (Nahaon)
Chikin Ha (Points of Direction)Even if you haven't visited these specific cenotes, please share your experiences at other cenotes as I'm sure readers would love to hear more!

Hi there! I'm merely a rookie in the Yuccatan, but last March we took a tour that went first to Chichen, then stopped at a nice cenote called Ik Kil, it's between Chichen and Ek Balam, near Valladolid. Sorry I can't be more precise on the location, but I'm sure you can find some further info. If you look on cancunmx.com, there is a couple named Skip and Judy who have pics of it. It was pretty cool, and a great break in between touring the two sets of ruins. Hope this helps, and thanks for your advice on our March trip, I'm counting the days..... Lianne

Ik Kil is definately beautiful!

We've been to Dos Ojos. We loved it..you can swim into a cavern (watch your head!) and through and into a bat cave.

Kids were a little creeped out swimming through the cavern, if you raise your head out of hte water you'll smack it on stalactites. Very squishy and dark, but beautiful when you emerge into the bat cave.

Ik Kil Cenote is across the road from the Delores Alba hotel, not far from the ruins, and is one of the best cenotes around. Cenote Zaci, in Valladolid, and Dzitnup cenote, between Valladolid and Ebb Tun, are also both worth seeing.

DON'T go to Gran Cenote. It's really not very big or interesting. You'd be better off to travel north a bit to Cenote Azul.:D

After visiting Gran Cenote, I would agree with Bill. However, if you've never been, take a morning and visit it once. It's a peaceful setting, and the water is very refreshing. That said, it isn't very "Gran" in the sense of the word.

Here's one shot of Cristalino, just south of Playa and right across from Barcelo Maya (I think). Very nice place, cheap entry (30 peso's in March '06), and a great place to dive.
