G (and other loyal posters),
Granted this isn't the most busy travel forum, and I'll admit that I stop in only somewhat frequently. However, the spammers seem to be on the rise. It used to be one every few weeks or so, now I log on and report about 5 new spam posts.
How easy/frequent is it to remove these posts? We don't need that garbage when dreaming about the sugary smooth sand of Tulum beach.
Thanks for your assistance,
Dan

I completely agree, austxdan! I began to feel like I was the only one hitting the Report Bad Post button. :) As my user name suggests, I don't have any problem with PAID advertising (it affords me the opportunity to head down to Tulum!) but this spam stuff is out of control!!

Hey Dan,
well it is easy to remove (takes seconds) but I don't necessarily see it or can get to it each day as I don't always check this board every day. I've been pretty busy with my work lately so haven't checked in here at all. The emails from this board are often filtered into my junk mail automatically (usually they contain the word "spam" ;) ) so I don't always know it's here.
Please don't sacrifice me to the mayan gods, I'm only an un-paid volunteer! :D ;)

No problem Ginger -
I do appreciate all your efforts here. Getting busy with your work sounds like a good thing indeed :) .

I just don't get these people who put the spam crap up. It's not like any of us are going to purchase anything seeing it would be most likely a rip off/scam. Don't they realize that it's just annoys people and that's not going to get them anywhere. Anyway, thanks for keeping this forum clean of spammers Ginger. I know if there weren't any moderators that this site would be mostly annoying spam posts if they weren't here. L8R

First we are invaded, now we are being overrun. I stop by this forum at least once a day...PLEASE give me, or anyone who is here all the time a way to boot these spam posts! I am volunteering...I'll do anything to get rid of spam..irritating!

I completely agree with you Gale. I'm here often...sometimes twice a day, sometimes once every other day. Yesterday I sent a PM to James asking about what was involved in co-moderating the board. As an advertising executive with over 20 years experience, I think I'm qualified to determine legitimate content versus unpaid advertising spam! :p :D :)
Hopefully, something will be done quickly to increase the value of the board (avatars, new buttons, added features like on the playa board) and decrease all the spam crap!!!

I love the "tone" of this board, we do a good job of treating each other with friendly respect..it is the invaders that are causing us grief. I haven't seen a need once in all the time I have been here to settle a dispute..but I sure do see a need to boot the spam posts!
I love this board..it is my favorite, those of us who come here have a common love of a wonderful place and we enjoy sharing it. I hate seeing it degraded with these ridiculous posts. I guess somebody, somewhere must buy the garbage they are selling, but it isn't going to happen here, I so wish they would just take their sales ads and go somewhere else.

I visit here 3 or 4 times a day just to see if there any new posts or to see if someone has added any photos. But it seems there is more and more garbage being posted than there are what most of us want to see here. I PM'ed James to see about being a moderator only to edit out the JUNK, a couple weks ago. His reply was that this forum will be folded into the playa. info forum shortly, than I suppose the moderators on there can keep a better eye on the spammers. Dave

No offense, but I really hope that doesn't happen. The lion's share of folks on the playa.info board, while knowledgeable on PDC, only think of Tulum as:
A place where El Parasio beach club is.
A close spot to check out a ruin.
A tour option to hang with Mitch. The folks on this board are here because they love Tulum and want to share all the special spots with others who are discovering this magical place. I'd tire very quickly of answering "What day is it free to get into the ruins?" or "How much are the beds at Parasio?" twice a day.

I have been very suprised by the # of regular Playa.info posters that are just getting around to visiting Tulum on more than a ruin visit.
I will be getting more info for the Tulum junkies in a short 24 Days :D :D :D

It was interesting to me that so many discover Tulum as part of a visit to Playa etc. I am one of those rare people who visited Tulum first and then started to explore other areas of the RM. I have yet to find a place that is as perfect for me as Tulum. For me, the perfect vacation is staying in Tulum and daytripping to Playa:D

This is going to be our first time in Tulum - We have been slowly moving down the coast trying to find our "Nirvana" - I wanted to come years ago, but my husband was a little more concerned about the lack of electricity & a/c than I was - I finally got him to stay in a place that had no air, and he discovered that it was fine. Oh, just an FYI - I bought some cute little lights that operate on batteries and sit on a beanbag sort of thing & rotate to various postitions - hopefully they will come in handy when the lights are out!

Great idea, minniemex. Also, you may want to purchase a converter that screws into a lightbulb socket. These neat little items can be picked up at Home Depot for about $5-8 and will allow you to recharge your camera batteries or MP3 player. Often times many of the hotels have electricity which only means they have lights in the room, not outlets. This will get you around that problem.

I guess I did make an assumption that they would have a plugin in the wall - I will go & get one this weekend - Thanks for the tip!! I have been stuck not being able to charge my batteries:D

Just a side note to the plug extention thing..make sure you don't use any heat generating appliances with it..like hair dryers or coffee makers. Appliances that heat up take alot of power and really play havoc with the generating systems. Charging batteries shouldn't be a problem at all!
I got a small battery powered lantern and it was just perfect to use in evenings. I think it is made by Coleman, has a low and high setting. Worked great and one set of batteries lasted for quite some time..thru the visit and long after I got home.

Perhaps one of our frequent single-post Spammers has one of these plugs for sale :) . Maybe they can arrange to have a Russian girl make delivery! And she'll leave you with a few good stock tips to boot!
BAM! Look how I just pulled this thread back to the original topic. :p

Hey guys - cool it - I'm Ukranian & my husband is in the computer business - but I am not responsible for any spamming - :D
I just can't understand how someone would take the time to set up an account just to spam - oh, I know, they never leave home:eek:
