We stayed there on our Dec.01 trip. But choose not to stay again this last trip in June 06. The place is one of the oldest on the beach, it is motel style all in a row, but they each have there own porch, and a hammock and chairs. The room is small but comfortable, hot water most of the time. The porch leads down a few steps to the sand then about 75 ft to the water and the most awesome beach. Overall good for the price. We did not stay there again for no other reason then we wanted to try other places.
Resturant: There is one on site pretty nice place both inside sort of and outside on the sand. Food is OK. I had fish Tacos they were good. Next door to the South is Los Lirios There res. is oceanfront, have heard mixed reviews about there food though. To the North is Ana Y Joses, very nice resturant here is a photo.

They have this resturant inside with sand floor outside on a deck overlooking the most awesome beach I mentioned that before did'nt I.
Excellent food there both place are an easy walk.
Rental Car. Yes Yes Yes. A car in Tulum is good to have. We rent in PDC then drive to Tulum. We catch private transfer to PDC, stay there a day or 2 get the car and head to Tulum. Also Buses run the whole area do search for ADO bus. Also Ana Y Joses has rental cars next door the Cabanas Tulum. Hpoe this helps. I have more photos of the place I will find them and send as well.

Great Info!! Thanks!! We had considered private transport all the way to Tulum, but may reconsider & stop in PDC - I really am excited to try all the restaurants on the beach! My most favorite place in the whole world:)

Hit as many resturants as you can. We were there 4 days on our last trip w/ 10 in PDC next time it will be the other way around. Anyway we did not eat at the same resturant twice. The car will help you get around to as many as possable. We had breakfast at a different place but would get a snack and Cervasas at whichever place we were at for the day. Then after clean-up would find a nice place for dinner. The Mezzanine was our favorite. Drive north from Cabanas Tulum at the Y in road go right, (left would take you back to Tulum Pueblo) it will be a kilo. or 2 on the right the ocean side, parking is mostly on the left side. Small hotel only 4 rooms. Here are a few shots of that place. Food and music and Drinks are Top Shelf.

We only bus to Tulum. The bus is cheap and comfortable. They always play a movie while you're on and if you have to go to the bathroom there's one on board. We start our trip in Playa and grab a bus which runs often enough to Tulum and you grab a cab to take you to the beach cabanas. Cab fair is 35pesos, but at times I've only been charged 30pesos. The cabs are rolling up and down the beach road all the time and i've never waited more than 5 minutes to catch one. It's also a fun way to meet people by sharing a cab with other folks staying where you are.
Though it's not likely, but does happen often enough apparently is the police pull over cars they recognise as rentals to get some cash out of you. Whatever you do don't speed. You can read threads about this at the playa.info site...

As usual, the folks on this board are dead-on with their advice on a rental car. We find it a necessity, but we're not the "roll out of bed, stumble to the beach and stay there all day" type...we're explorers. Yes, we love the beach...just not the same one each day. We also love the many cenotes in the area, as well as the different ruins (Coba, Ek Balam, Chichen Itza, Muyil).
By the time you pay for private transfers and taxis, you may find a small car affordable. For example, rental rates for your stay at Buster Car Rental (at the Cancun airport) start at $240 which includes all taxes and insurance. That works out to less than $27/day.

We are explorers also, so a car is a must for us. We also like to be able to change plans at a drop of a hat, dependent on the weather of the day. We have stayed twice at Cabanas Tulum, but will stay somewhere else this time. It is a good place with a great beach and everything you will need. Hope you may have seen some of my (cabanas Tulum) pic's that have been posted on this site.
Have a great time.
We will be in Tulum Nov. 12th and 13th. , most likely in the (hippie beach area) North beach area. Maybe we will see ya.
