I would do a search online for Tulum hotels in order to get an idea of what's there. Not all hotels have there own website, but most are are written about at one point or another. You can find places with just the bare necessities to places that have all your modern day luxuries. I stick to the twenty dollar a night range where you get a rustic cabana and shared bathrooms etc... I met a few good people staying at Zazil-Kin and it was only a short walk to the ruins. That's where I will try to stay this January for sure. The beach was so beautiful there. They also have a basketball court which was kind of weird, but what the hell. I didn't buy a ball last year, but will this time around. They have a restaurant with beer and pretty good food with ok prices, but you'll want to venture back into town after dark and experience all it has to offer. Anyway, have a great time. Tulum is wonderful.

I liked Peidra Escondida when I was ther alone. It is in the more closely populated part of the beach zone, and that gives you the advantage of a choice of good restaurants. Theirs is good and Zama is short walk away.

There was also a little restaurant bar in that zone that has some live music several times a week. it's called Zahra's I believe and they had internet access there sporadically when i was there a year ago. I met people there which was fun. If yu are looking for a more solitary vacation lots of the little cabana places to the south would fit the bill - miles of empty beautiful beach

Hi when are you going, my wife and I have stayed at Ana Y Jose, Nueva Vida and Posada Margherita, Cabanas Tulum are good, very basic right on the beach, good place for people watching on the beach. Single you will not have any problems, if you are there April 11th to April 19th stop and say hello to us at Nueva Vida unit 5, in town, Carlos and Charlies's is good as is Don Cafeteo's, Ana Y jose has good food and we also enjoyed tremenously Posada Marherita's restaurant, probably our favorite.
