Well, I’ve been taking a peek for the last couple of days so thought I may as well join in.
I’m the northern boy and my SO Dallas is my partner. We live in a small northern Ontario city but travel south when we can. We have been to the Tulum area a few times and plan on another trip this winter. Anything to get away from those cold temps!
Some of the places that are mentioned in the various topics are totally unfamiliar, yet some are well known.
We usually stay way south of the ruins, in the Posada Margherita area.
Anyway, looking forward to sharing tips and stories of past and future trips with others on this board.

This is me in front of our accommodations a couple of years ago. It was a great place but unfortunately does not exist anymore.

This was on the beach, just north of Posada Margharita, 2003 I think.

Just a bit more info on us . . . (and I hope it doesn't turn into another of my long winded stories).

Dallas and I started going to the Yucatan in 2001. For the first two trips we just winged it - took second class busses, no itinerary, no reservations etc. It was a great way to see the country and meet people. Some of the places we stayed were Puerto Morelos, Valladolid, Isla Holbox and of course, Tulum.
Our last two trips we have rented a car in Cancun and driven ourselves around. Most of those vacations was spent in Belize, but we always managed some time in Tulum on the way down and back up.

This year we would like to roam the Yucatan for a week then settle in some small hotel for a week of relaxing on the beach.

That's what I was thinking!

Let's see, just north of Posada Margarita, that's the Ana y Jose Beach Club now, then a bit of open space, then Casa de Miel before you get to Hemingway.

My first trip to Tulum, I stayed at Hemingway (March of 06?), and neither AyJ nor Miel were built yet. There were some shack-y looking buildings I passed on the stretch of open beach before I got to PM for dinner. I remember feeling a bit uncomfortable walking home on the beach with that deserted-looking stuff in there. I didn't exactly run, but I did walk fast with my senses on high alert.

She's great in and out of the picture! You're a lucky guy Paul!

Looks like a great place! I've heard some great stories of how it used to be!

Somebody should start a "real" old timers thread...........maybe even a sticky!
