It's funny how this sort of article/story always shows some attractive young woman at the nudist resort but I've heard that in reality they are borderline creepy... with most of the people looking like you'd wish they'd put something on instead!

I am assuming the Au Natural Club they are mentioning is Hidden Beach Resort?
When I see pictures of this place, it is yes, very nice, except for all that cloth upholstery..my first thought is ewwww....naked butts on that stuff all day and night..heehee.
I guess au naturel is a state of mind..I personally cant' even begin to think of scaring the poor people who work in these places...they don't deserve that!:p
Ah, yeah James...my experience at Copal...those who opt out probably shouldn't..hehe..but hey, to each his/her own..if it makes ya happy...

One word....Towels...a towel is an essential part of nudist etiquette. At Hidden Beach there are stacks and stacks of towels available throughout the resort....and at less luxurious venues, you are expected to bring your own.

The average nudist is pretty much like the average anybody...next time you are at Walmart standing in line, try picturing everybody naked....that's what it looks like folks....it is definitely not about sex, although you might see a few more "hardbodies" on a C/O beach than at a resort...
but you are right, it does make me happy...there is nothing else quite so relaxing for shedding stress....whether on the beach or closer to home...

Mayaflya, for your upcoming (OK- far off in the distance :) ) visit to Xcalak, you may want to consider Playa Sonrisa.

I've been going to clothing optional beaches since I moved to CA thirty years ago. There's even one right in San Francisco below the GG Bridge that you can get to on MUNI.
I've always found 'nudist' places to be weird and creepy, but when clothing optional is part of the culture, then it's no big deal. Because when it's clothing optional, it's just that - optional. What weirds me out is when people think that clothing optional places, like Copal, are nudist resorts, and they go naked everywhere.
I guess maybe I'm not uptight about it because I went to art school and worked with the human form in life drawing class, and was a model myself - after awhile it's normal to be naked in front of people. Who cares really.
The only thing that I'm considering from this point forward is the prevalence of cameras. Even though I'm naked on the beach - it is so not cool to take photos without permission, let alone post them on the web, which I have seen on other boards. In CA there are un-written rules of conduct for being on a clothing optional beach - and no photography without permission is one of them.
