hi everyone,
i'm new to this site. my boyfriend and i are headed to tulum/cancun this sunday. we're both really excited for the trip!
thanks to everyone who posted on this website we've got some good recommendations on where to stay, eat, what to do, etc. :)
i just looked at the weather forecast and it looks like it's going to be raining or thunderstorming most of the time while we're there. (i'm crossing my fingers that the weather forecast is wrong.)
i've read that during rainy season it usually just rains for a little bit in the afternoon/early evening. can anyone who's traveled to tulum around this timeframe or who's from there confirm that?
thanks in advance!

Hi Gloria, and welcome!!
In generally, we don't pay any attention to the weather reports around here. It's the tropics--weather changes so quickly and there is just about always a chance of rain. It can be pouring in Akumal and totally clear in Tulum... it can pour for 20 minutes and be done... or it can pour for an afternoon. Most of the time, the showers blow through quickly.
That being said -- and I don't mean to get you alarmed or anything, really I don't--but you should keep an eye on the weather and on tropical storm Gustav. It's still too hard to tell where it'll go (it may head up to Texas, it's just too soon to know) but you should peek at a weather report now & then just to be prepared just in case. In all likelihood it won't affect you at all. At the very least, though, it could make for pretty dangerous surf.
Check out the tropical weather forecast at weather underground (http://www.wunderground.com).
OH, I just looked at the 5-day tracking forecast on wunderground. It looks like it might affect your arrival day somewhat -- but depending on how fast it goes & where it goes, you should be fine! Phew!
I'm sure you'll have a wonderful, rain-free trip!

Welcome to the board. Once Gustav heads out into the Gulf, your weather should be sunny and dry. Have a great trip, and if you can, give us report when you come home.
