Bahia Principe may be in trouble with the newest addition.
Enviromental laws may be compromised and permits revoked for the golf course.

Well, that is interesting..not a place I want to go, but:
i will stand by to hear about all the hoopla that comes from all of this.
Golf courses: In general, really do pollute the environment, as far as here...in areas of the USA...pesticides, fertilizers etc...i am thinking this may be true with Mexico? Anyone know?

Well, this is actually good news if it holds true. The golf courses they are constructing are very damaging to the mangroves and the beaches...those beautiful greens are actually the cause of a great deal of erosion. The mangroves are necessary to balance the marine environment, and when they are destroyed it desecrates that balance. And yes, anything chemical, as in pesticides, herbacides, etc. does harm.
NO MAS GOLF COURSES!!!!

It is possible to create very eco-friendly golf courses that use recycled/gray water for irrigation, low-impact fertilizers and no pesticides, just the same as you can have a "green" lawn in the US.
Alas, these practices are not yet common in golf course construction and I'm guessing they're not following them in Mexico. And yes, Gale, the potential for mangrove destruction is great.
Sorry, just had to chime in as a golfer.

:dollarsign::dollarsign::dollarsign::dollarsign: is the driving force in the construction of Golf Courses. ( and some swanky hotels on the Tulum beach road) ..and YES it is possible to fertilize and water in an ecological way, and sadly it isnt a priority...perhaps the bad fertilizers green things up faster, kill weeds etc faster, and the cost is much less, i don't know..but i appreciate the mention of the Mangroves and how important they are to the eco system in Mexico. Many people really aren't educated on many environmental problems, IE: destruction of Mangroves.
Educating us is great. Thanks

The loss of the mangroves is critical to the marine life population..afterall, the mangroves are a "nursery" for fish, turtles, and all the wonderous living things we see when we snorkel and dive.
All one needs do is take a look at the serious erosion of the beaches in Playacar to know what destruction of the natural dune and mangroves does to the beach.
I have no problem with properly placed golf courses, I know golf is a source of great enjoyment for many people. But do they have to have that fantastic ocean view? both the dune and the mangroves are natures protectors for the beach and sea and once they are gone there is no going back. It's a delicate balance..I certainly hope some serious thought is being given to the mass construction of all things, not just the golf courses.

This is what i read:
we found out yesterday that in the courts with the BPT that they put their foot down on the Golf resort... it is no more... the courts said nope you cant build there....All construction is stopped
from what i understood they have to now pull down the grand cement entrance they put up.
I GUESS THIS IS GOOD NEWS!!!:crossfingers:

It is GREAT news..except for the people who have invested there, I do feel for them..but hey, have y'all seen that fugly stone entrance..I have a pic somewhere from May..all I could say was, WTH is THAT?
I noticed someone wondering about the jungle being cleared..but we all know that given time, the jungle reclaims what belongs to the jungle. It's won't take long and the view riding south of 307 on the jungle side, well, it will be jungle once again.

Well: I guess i Might feel for the investors .But investing is about: making :dollarsign: and I have no problem with that, if done honesty and smart. I feel for the investors that were hood winked/swindled/sucked or just naive into a development that is now not going to happen: but then again..before you invest, especially in a foreign country, it is wise to be well informed and educated of the big plan..environmental,financial etc.
So, maybe on one hand i feel for them, but on the other, this coming from someone that really doesn't take many risks on investing..Eyes and Ears wide open, and Greed: It really can destroy. So what was the whole golf course development about? Making people happy on a beautiful green golf course, or : Making a lot of :dollarsign: while people played golf in a beautiful place whilst paying a lot of:dollarsign: to do so, at the cost of the environment?

That entrance does win the fugly award, which is quite an achievement considering all the fugly hotel entrances on 307.

Gale, hope you can post that picture, I'm trying to remember if I noticed it in March. Where is it again? Is that the one up towards the Chemuyil exit?

I'm going to reserve judgment (and celebrations) on this one until I read something a little more specific. I hope what's been posted over on LocoGringo turns out to be true, but there's certainly not much substance there yet.
Re: that damn entrance arch, it is hands down the ugliest thing of all the ugly things on 307. Looks like whatever came in second in a contest to design the entrance to a Soviet WWII memorial. If I were coming home to that, I think I would expect to be strip searched every time I drove up.

My work load at the office has been insane, sorry I haven't been here to answer promptly, but here's the piece of work that wins the fugly award.
It's a real bad attempt to immitate the stonework of the Maya and needs to be disassembled and put back in the box it came out of asap!

Aww guys...it's not that bad....I think they should leave it up as a monument to stupid development.... If it's true that the environment wins this one, I'll drive by this arch and smile!
BHP might want to cut their losses....I can see big 20 foot high letters..."MANGROVE WORLD ECO PARK" ...for 60 bucks you get a wrist band a shove into the jungle!
