Helllo,
This will be my first trip to tulum. We are really looking forward to visiting the area. I went to PDC last year and stayed at an AI. I'm ready to ruff it but would like to have a solor powered fan for my wife. I'm not really interested in the places that are charging >$150.
We are heading down July 18 for 4 nights then heading to the Akumal Beach Resort for 3 nights for some snorkeling.

Cabanas Tulum has generator power until 11pm, including fans. However, power goes out at 11pm sharp. All the rooms do face the ocean though, and have giant windows that open with screens on them to let in the great breeze.
Going in July I'd be wary about staying in a cabana that is behind others or set further back in the jungle. These can be sweltering.

The air at Cabanas Copal and Azulik are solar powered. When the land to the east heats up, air rises causing a low pressure area, whereupon air from the sea rushes in to fill the vacuum, creating a wonderful on-shore breeze virtually all the time. All free, courtesy of the sun. Having just spent eight nights there, I can verify that these facts are authentic.

I like that answer! :D
So was it cool enough even back further from the water? Did the breeze still reach through there, like to the restaurant area? I know some folks who stayed in a Cabana (not sure which hotel) in late July one year and their cabana was set further back behind others, away from the water and they couldn't even stay another night it was so hot.
Copal IS up on that little bluff though, so I imagine they get more breezes that way.
Would love to see some pics, Kenster, if you have any!

I met several people who were staying in the Garden View cabanas at Copal. Most were quite happy back there, saying that they got a little bit of a breeze, enough for them without having the strong winds caught by the cabanas on the shoreline. When I walked back in that area, I could, indeed, feel a nice gentle breeze. Personally, I would prefer a stronger one but then, at home, I sleep with both a ceiling fan and a very strong Vernado floor fan blowing full force on my bed year round.
At Azulik, I had the opportunity to stay for three nights in a beach view villa then moved for five nights to a sea view. From my two previous stays at Azulik, I would have thought that the beach views wouldn't get much sea breeze. I was wrong. I had plenty of strong breezes night and day in the beach view. And the sea views always have good breezes.
