Hi,

After searching your posts, I'd love to stay at Cabanas Tulum -- but they're booked the July week we'll be in town. I like Zazil Kin, but we need a place for our first night: we fly into Cancun at 3 pm and other threads advise booking ahead the first night and then arriving early in the am at a place like Zazil Kin -- do I need to book ahead for a late July visit?

Copal seems ok, but I've not found any posts on their $35 cabanas. Someone recommends a room with a breeze, but I'd like to spend $70 or less for a cabana or room. Can anyone advise me on the cabanas at Copal or offer another suggestion for our first night?

I've stayed in cabanas near Palenque, so I'm hip to heat and bugs and the like, but hope for a breeze if not a fan.

Thanks!

Spring

Perhaps you could stay in town or at Teetotum for the first night and go from there, since you'll be getting into Tulum kinda late anyway. I did not stay at Copal, but did get a massage there, and the areas where the cabanas are was definitely hot and not much sea breeze seemed to reach right there. Not sure if they have fans, but if so they probably don't go all night.

Mayan Grill has some cabanas for rent, they should be fairly reasonable.
Zahra also has some with shared bath. Copal's are equal to the others there, except for shared bath, which is up close to the restaurant in the middle of the property. As I recall, the shared bath cabanas are not exactly seaview..they are back just a bit further on the property, if you are at the spa area, you would go to the left along the pathway..some of them would have a seaview, just not as close to the beach as the actual seaview cabanas are. They would probably be ok for the winter months, but I am not sure about the summer..the breeze doesn't reach back from the beach very far.

Tribal Village has cute cabanas on the cliff ubove the sea, but I don't know of anyway to book ahead, they no longer have a website.
Papaya Playa also, but I would try them last, not first, service issues.

Las Arrifices has some cabanas in the sand, around $35-40 a night..basic stick huts, with shared baths. They are right on the beach though, so it would be very comfortable breeze wise. (I hate the heat without some air moving).

you could also check with Shambala Petit..they have nice shared bath cabanas, but I am not sure the price would be what you are looking for.

None of these have a fan though, so i would check into getting a battery powered one if you have to have one.

Thanks, Gale! Shambala Petit's site is lovely, and I've emailed them for rates. Was it you who recommended the sea view king at Copal? I paused at $115 a night, but they've a reserve 4/pay for 3 night deal, so perhaps I could swing it . . .

We'd like to eat in town maybe once a day, so I'm trying to follow other posts' advice that taxis and combos are less expensive near the intersection. So Copal has that appeal for me, too.

I've a lot of info from everyone here, which makes for much more ease in committing sight unseen. This is my first time planning ahead for a trip to Mexico. I usually plan no further than a flight. But it seems a honeymoon should be easier than wandering tired with packs at night.
