I am happy to be part of this forum after having enjoyed it the last few weeks. You guys have the most amazing trip reports I have ever seen, they are so thorough and enjoyable. I am from Connecticut and have recently started traveling to the Riviera Maya area but I am trying to catch up on lost time. I will be taking my 3rd trip to the area in 12 months in June. Unfortuantely I will have nothing to offer the forum but questions in the future but I will contribute once I make it to Tulum.

Where have you been on your recent trips? I'm working on the 3 trips in 12 months thing as well, assuming I go in early December as planned.
Welcome to the board!

Ditto...welcome! Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong...but as Beachreader asked about your recent trips to Riviera Maya, I'm sure most people here do not get enough about Mexico so don't be shy...and post some pics!!
Thanks

Welcome to the board. Like Solbound said, we won't mind if you post pics/stories about your trips to other parts of MX :D

I think everyone here would be very bored with my pics and stories of my trips to Mexico. You guys are Indiana Jones compared to me. I have stayed at the Iberostar Grand in Playa Paraiso last June for our anniversary and again a few months ago. The purpose of the trip was to do absolutely nothing but be pampered. We wanted to just lay at the pool and beach and do nothing, which we did quite well. We are going with our kids, and my father, in a few weeks to the Barcelo Maya Palace. (at least I am getting closer to Tulum). My past reviews and pics are almost exclusively of the resort itself. We did get to spend a day in Akumal (heaven on earth) and did the obligatory tour of the ruins. It was there that I first saw the beaches from the cliffs that got me hooked. I wanted to learn more about Tulum and found this board through playa.info and locogringo. The first trip report I read was Solbound and I was hooked even further. The forum members here write the most adventurous reports (one of you even had a picture of your wife holding a scorpion, Yikes! How can I match that? I got pictures of my wife on a pool float, not quite the same) and my "adventures" and pics are mostly of a single resort. I hope to change that and get to Tulum. Unfortuantely, I will only be able to offer questions in the beginning but I am a true believer that if you ask questions, you owe the same people that helped you on the board feedback and a report when you go yourself. I appreciate everyones greetings!

Welcome aboard!
Some of us are more adventurous than others! You won't find any scorpions in any of my trip reports! I'm mostly a beachlounger myself. Sit. Read. Walk. Eat. Sit. Read. Walk. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. :D :D :D
I'm so jealous of all of you taking three trips in a year!!!! I'll be lucky if I get in one!

I tend to be a little obsessive-compulsive. I did not go anywhere the previous 4 years, I have never really been a vacation person but that is changing. I guess it does when you find someplace you like.

Many of us did the AI thing at first, then branched out. I pretty much do nothing all day, mostly sitting and reading on the beach and then taking beachwalks to see other places, so I thought an AI was perfect for that.
I found that my room at the AI was like a half a mile from the sand and really felt like a hotel room. A nice hotel room, but a hotel room all the same. I stay in hotel rooms for work, I don't want to stay somewhere that feels like that when I'm on vacation, ya know?
So I found cabanas right in the sand are perfect for me. Besides, the food is SO much better when you go out and find it in situ rather than eating off a buffet that 5000 other people are eating from.
I remember being at an AI in Mexico, and another one in Jamaica and thinking, "where the heck is all the local food"?
You're going to love Tulum, can't wait to hear your impressions of it after the big places you've stayed before. It's a different kind of relaxation, you'll see!

Welcome to all our new members!
I agree, although I have always sought out adventure, I never ventured far from home, and mostly just weekend trips. Once I found Tulum, that all changed..I discovered a yearning in my soul for that place in particular and the entire Yucatan in general that has to be satisifed as often as possible!
Staying in Tulum makes it easy to go to Akumal for snorkeling, or you can stay in Akumal and spend your days on Tulum Beach..but nowhere, will you see the sunrise as you do in Tulum, or enjoy what I like to call the Zen frame of mind..lol.
