Thinking of staying in Tulum for a few days and wondering what one might do to rent a bike to get around?

Hello Zelda,
I haven't been to Tulum yet, but I've been doing a lot of research. I've found that many of the larger resorts have complimentary bicycles for their guest's use and others have them for rent right there on property. Do you know where you'll be staying yet? Perhaps, if you call or e-mail the front desk they can tell you if they have bicycles.
Sincerely,
anGela

Ah good information. I have no idea where I'll be staying yet. At the moment, I'm still dreaming. I expect that I'll spend most of the time in PdC, with 3-4 days in Tulum. I imagine just hopping the bus down, grabbing a taxi and tell them to take me to a beach hotel they recommend for $50-$75/night and start there. Is it similar to PdC where I can just drag my suitcase behind me from place to place until I find somewhere I like in my price range?

Hi Zelda. While our first trip to Tulum begins in 6 days, I know many folks do just what you are planning. They go down and just "find a place". Obviously you can't be too choosy.
For your price range, we are staying at Cabanas Copal for $60/nt for a Seaview King cabana. They do book up tho, so you may want to reserve online before you go down. I also look forward to the fact that they have bicycles available for the guests.
Enjoy your trip.

Oh excellent. That's exactly the kind of information I'm looking for! Please let us know how you like it.

It is not like playa where there are hotels next to one another. The places to stay are more spread apart and you'll either walk along the beach or the road and you'll have to trudge in a bit to all places to get to reception. We've never reserved ourselves but always used back packs. Never been to Copal but thought about it. A bit further from the ruins than we like to be. Check out hotelstulum.com. Copal and many others are listed there... The places that are really really cheap are very rustic, but there are great places for under 50 there... Oh, never have but have seen bikes for rent at some cabanas...

You can rent bicycles at two different places near the beach. Bring a small can of lube though, the chains are always rusty from being near the beach and the bikes aren't exactly hotel bikes.
It's handy to bring a small flashlight too, many of Tulums resorts don't have power or shut off their generators at night.
