View Full Version : Tulum in June; Will I need A/C? How risky to get room once there?

Hello all!!

My wife and I are taking our first vacation since having our son. We have decided on Tulum, (JUN 14-20) but aren't sure about where to stay. We are seriously considering Zulum, but haven't decided yet. Will it be too hot for a room with no A/C? Also, several of you veteran travelers have mentioned waiting until getting there before booking a room; how risky is that during this season? We aren't high maintenance people, we just want to know what to expect. We would like to stay around 100/night like the girl that posted earlier.
Thanks for the update.

It will be hot and humid in June and I wouldn't even consider any room but a beachfront to take advantage of the winds off the water. As long as you do seafront, you shouldn't need ac though. I would also make sure I stayed somewhere with a ceiling fan, and electricity at night when you will be inside the cabana. (Fan isn't much good without electricity to run it..lol)

You can find a very comfortable beachfront room for around $125 a night so I will go with some that are in the price range of up to that amount.

Fortunately, June is low season and you will enjoy lower prices in lodging and car rental if you are renting a car. (recommended).

Are you taking your son with you? I am assuming you are taking a vacation away from the boy..lol in saying that La Vita E Bella looks very nice. If you are bringing your son with you, Tita Tulum is very family friendly.

Minnie has stayed at Zulum and can give you all the details.
Posada Lamar looks beautiful and is really neat in it's decor.

There are alot of places to recommend, let us know more about what you want in the place you stay and I am sure you will get lots of recommendations.

Even a year ago, I would have said sure, you don't need a reservation..and you still don't, there will always be something available..unless you find a place you really want to stay..in a certain room..if that is the case than I strongly suggest you pre book. In the heat of the summer, yes I would prebook, simply because I would want to ba absolutely sure of getting a seafront room for the breezes.

A BIG bonus to the hot weather is the warm water..It's similar to a warm bath in the summertime.
Just as refreshing are the cool waters of the cenotes when it's hot and humid. It's a great time to explore cenotes.

Welcome to the board!!

Ok, here are a few reports from people who stayed at Zulum, including myself......

I would suggest you also do a search (see the FAQ) section to learn how to do this if you don't already - there is so much info out there!!

I always say better safe than sorry (unless I'm going solo then anything goes).

Go for the A/C on your first night. That's my recommendation. Make your reservation at Los Lirios or wherever for one night and see if you need it. Should you decide it's not necessary and you see something much more your style you can seek accomodations there. There will be vacancies at most resorts.

Thanks Doug, Minnie, and Gale

I think I will follow Doug's advice and stay in AC the first night or two, then move to CT or even La Vita E Bella. I really just want Momma to be comfortable and to have a good time. We are very excited about the adventure!

No matter where you stay, it's Tulum..you will soon fall into relaxation mode and there is just no bad place in Tulum..I could sleep in a tent on the beach and be happy!

the only unhappy part is coming home..:p
