I'm about to book a week with Playa Selva and I wanted to see what experiences were out there. It seems to be a perfect location and the right mount of space (we are renting a cabana) at the price we wanted.
Anyone have experiences here? I know Mariposa was going there, did they have a good experience?
Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan..Playa Selva is a place that we don't know much about. Care to share some of what you know?:D
Did a search and found their Mexico Vacation Listing

This was one of the places I walked past and wondered a.bout! Pretty from the beach, but don't know much about it at all
Welcome to Tulum Info! Glad to have you here!

Playa Selva is owned/operated by my friend Mauricio. It is where we do our lunches for the Playa.Info (these tours are now badged and managed/operated by Mitch as Yucatreks) Tulum and Beyond day tour. It is where I go in Tulum. It is ultra laid-back. The essence of what Tulum is, to me.

I'm not sure, but I think perhaps Mariposa ended up not staying there--they were going to go w/ friends and I think their friends couldn't make it at the last minute or something. Not sure.
Use the search feature and you might find some of her posts about it. Hopefully she'll see this thread and chime in!
And welcome to TI!

you are right Phyllis..Mariposa stayed at Posada Lamar, then moved to Casa Samasati with the short bed..lol..then stayed at Casa de Miel where Fran stayed after I left.
I will have to check Playa Selva out more closely when I am there in 18 days!!! The listing looks very nice and the Low Season price isn't too bad either!
James..I always wondered where you did the lunch with those tours..would it be possible to get a tour of Playa Selva when I am there so we can put some pictures up with a description here on Tulum Info? I really like the look of the place from the listing, very nice!

I've been speaking to a Manuela and I'm being asked to wire half now for a deposit and then the rest a month before the reservation.
Is this normal? I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable about this and looking for what others experiences have been.

It is not uncommon to wire money in advance. I had to wire all my monies for Zulum before I got there also. I understand your concerns and it is daunting. However, I did it and everything turned out fine. I would ask if you could mail a check instead, as wire transfers, especially international are spendy.

Luckily, I'm living in Mexico...so I'm hoping I can walk the money into the bank...
I guess I'm mostly concerned because this appears to be private ownership and so there wouldn't seem to be any recourse if things don't work out. People have previous experiences...but someone is mentioning a name I've not talked to with Playa Selva. I'm sure it will all sort out.

I've had a great handshake relationship with Playa Selva for years. I doubt Mauricio handles the reservations stuff. He's also recently had a child and travels between Tulum and Switzerland.
