"where do we stop in Playa to buy our CASES of wine? "
If you have a Sams card thats a good place for quantity at decent prices. Selection wasn't great. Wine isn't cheap! I ended up shopping a bottle or 2 here and there. The Sanfransisco super market in Tulum pueblo has a decent selection. Markets in Playa would have more. Nothing like cheap california wine there tho! Most Mx wines are terrible. Found 1 or 2 drinkable. Better is Chilean & Argentinian thos I found most to be a little priceier than here in Missouri!

Twirls, Thanks for the Sams club info. Is it easy to get to off "307" or is San Francisco just as easy - I am really "practicing" my Chilean and Argentinean (sp?) wines these days as I leave for Peru in 3 weeks!:beerchug:
(Yes I will drink it out of a beer mug if I have to),

Grace, the Sam's Club is on the left side of 307 (the northbound side), south of the the light at Ave. Juarez. It's huge, and I think there's a way to turn left there, but hopefully someone will correct me. You may have to pass it and take the next "retorno" to get back up there, but it's easy to see when you're there, assuming it's daytime and not pouring rain. Retornos go from the left lane (unlike here in central NJ where you have to turn right into a jughandle to turn left or U off of commercial roads).

On the right/southbound side a little bit farther down is a big mall called Centro Maya. I believe the Soriana store there has wine. You may need to be in the local lanes to make that right turn into their parking lot, but it'll be easier to get back heading south from there than from Sam's.

The San Francisco doesn't have much selection, but it's there and it's easy to get to, so I wouldn't sweat it much.

Thanks Fran, I think I will look for the "big Mall"; I have more experience with those ;) and have that "inner road map" when it comes to retail therapy. And any large sign that shouts "LIQUOR"...:D

OK, "big mall" means something different than it does up here. I wouldn't go looking for the Mall of America or anything. :)

I think the sign says "Centro Maya", the anchor store is Soriana. If you get to the part of the highway where there are trees pretty solidly along the sides of the road again (as opposed to the businesses lining the road as you pass through Playa del Carmen), you may have gone too far. In which case you can take the next retorno back to Sam's or just give up and head south and buy at the San Francisco.

Grace, look at Lynette's post, Covi Comes to Tulum. That should be a great help to all of us--Covi is a big liquor store.

ha, I bet one day there will be a Playa Mall of Mexicana; I think I will be daring, take my chances, and just head south!
I can always drink margs and :beerchug:

Never been to Mall of America though; I still live in a town where the malls are rather small but still packed on those rainy saturdays! I hate going to them here, so I really don't want to go while on vacation.
Personally I enjoy sipping and clicking on the internet for all my needs.

I just remember a Xmas in Belize where the bars did not stock wine, the local grocery (a joke) had two old bottles of something we drank back in high school, and a gal from Napa and I were fighting over them!:D
I am cracking myself up thinking about it. I had to learn to drink straight rum with lime. Not bad actually.
So the first thing I ask about a new vac. spot - do they sell wine? (If not, I can hoard the small bottles off the plane I guess) but now that we have Chili and Argentina (and I think even Mexico) growing grapes, I am in heaven!:star:
But..just in case I need something from Sams Club desperately, I know how to direct the driver (DH) there --which ultimately will start a whole new thread..

Well I certainly planned my arrival at the right time...Covi Time :burp:

Isn't it great how small things can make one so happy.:D

(I'm sorry, I am on a thing after discovering these smileys - I can't post them on my regular emails; probably a good thing for my friends )
Anyway, the list is getting checked off...room - check, liquor store, check,
list of restaurants (I'd have to spend a month to get to those), check

Now..what do I sell?:dollarsign:
Not Graceland!
Thanks Lynette for passing on the info...
