My fiance and I are planning a trip to playa in April. I have read quite a bit of information that there are some nude beaches in Tulum. Which beach would be a good one for us to go to. We are planning on renting a car, filling an ice chest, and spending the day trying to get rid of tan lines. I have read some of the cabana's have nude beaches. Will they let me park the car there and visit the beach or is there a better place to go where there is a place to park while we spend the day. Any information would be helpful. Thanks

Can't give you much personal experience ... other than I have stayed at Cabanas Copal and one next to it (Papaya Playa?) and the attitude on the beach is relaxed. Topless fairly normal and clothing optional if no one seems to object; just be considerate if kids are around. Parking is tight at these inexpensive, basic cabanas so I doubt a day tripper with a cooler would be welcome. If I were you I'd pull in without the cooler and buy a drink or two at the ocean side bar (Cabanas Copal has two bars, a nice small one at the beach while Papaya Playa has one larger bar on the beach with swing seats for bar stools) and honestly say this is your first trip so you are just checking out the area and might come back for a possible future trip.
I recall hearing that there is a designated nude beach a mile or so further south. But I never went there; my goal was simply a cheap hut near the beach.

I don't know what the dress code is for Don Armando's cabaņas, but I do know that you can take a cooler into the beach area. We've taken a picnic lunch and a cooler full of beer when we have visited that area.

We have been a few times to the beach at Playa Paraiso beach club. There is ample parking, and a cute beach bar. I'm sure the etiquette is to buy drinks there (and certainly if you want to use the loungers) but we bring our own cooler of beer and lunch and just sit on the beautiful expanse of beach. It is topless for sure, never saw anyone totally naked though.

Last summer my wife and I with some friends walked from the Tulum Ruins south. The beach and water are unbelievable. We walked to the Paraiso (sp) beach bar where we spent a great afternoon. The bartenders were great, the beer was cold and the food was good. We caught a cab back to the Pueblo at the end of the driveway at the end of the day.
If you have a car drive south past the Ruins go left in Tulum toward the Sian Kaan Biosphere. Before you enter the park pull off the road. There are miles of beautiful beaches a short walk from the road. All cooler and clothing optional friendly.

You could look into Playa Naturel in the South part of Soliman Bay. I believe they allow walk-ins, too. good luck this link might be helpful: http://www.castawaystravel.com/playan/playan-photo.htm
