We are flying into Cancun when we arrive but departing from Cozumel. A little bit of a hassle but we got a much better airfare doing this. Our flight departs Cozumel at 6:00pm. So I am just wondering what time we would need to leave Tulum to catch the ferry? Do the ferries run reliably?

ferries should leave every hour starting at 6:00 a.m or so, figure 30 minutes or so to cross and another 15 to taxi to the airport....... I'd add 45 minutes to get to Playa, buy your tickets and get in line

Ferries might also be affected by weather; high winds or rough seas could delay or cancel some runs. So I'd add more time if the weather's poor.
Timing depends a bit on how you're getting there. Gale took the 11 a.m. bus to get to Playa in time for the noon ferry, allowing time just in case she missed that, the 1:00 ferry would still work. Her flight was at 3:00.
I haven't heard how that worked out for her, hopefully she'll check in later and give details.

I am certain that the weather will be perfect the entire time we are in Mexico:). What is the cozumel airport like? If we get there early can we check our bags and then leave the airport to do a little sightseeing?

Talking with Gayle recently, I remember her saying something about the bus dropping her at the new? bus station that was alot farther from ther ferry and she missed the noon ferry, if I'm not mistaken. I'll mention to her to see this thread tomorrow.

susan.....You shouldn't have any problem with the ferry at that time of day but check the schedule anyway. There are certain hours that the ferry skips and that can change on a daily basis. I was living on the island and had a 1:00 pm plane to catch in Cancun. Thought I would catch the 11:00 am ferry and be at the airport in plenty of time. There was no 11:00 am ferry that day. Had to take the noon one. By the time I got to the airport and waited in line, my flight was already on the runway. I also think there is a gap in service for the ferry around 1 or 2 in the afternoon depending on which way you are going.
I lived 4 blocks from the airport and that is around Ave. 75 and Aeropuerto road. There is not much to see around there. The Cozumel airport is small so you won't have any problems checking your luggage. You can leave the terminal but a taxi is not allowed to pick you up from the airport. You'll have to walk out of the airport to Aeropuerto Road and flag one down if you want to go into town. It's not a long walk and a taxi should cost you less than $5 to get to town.

Thanks great info. I think we will get there a little early and if things work out we will go into town for a little while and bum around.

Count on an hour to get from Tulum to Playa by bus. Keep in mind there is no noon ferry..but if your flight doesn't depart until 6pm, you won't need to rush to get to the ferry as I did..lol. My flight was to depart at 3:05 and I was on the 1pm ferry. Oops..lol..good thing we had a delay in departure.
The ferry, under normal conditions, is about 30 minutes across the channel..on my day of arrival, with wind and rough water, it took closer to an hour to make the crossing.
The ferry runs every hour, I would try to be on the 3pm ferry at the very latest. It's only 5 minutes to the airport by cab, which are lined up to pick up passengers at the street.
Oh, $11 US each way ferry fare, and $4 US for the cab to/from the airport.
