I dont like doing these reports , but the site needs it and I have some free time so here it goes folks.
Deanne and I are lates 30 and have been to tulum before.
2002 a day trip
2004 a day trip and then 3 nights in Punta allen
2005 3-4 nights at La vita e bella
2006 5 nights at the new mezzanine.
Jan 26th we arrive at the mezz after using a transfer service from the airport. ($100).
The owner manager meets us and gets us checked in and helps with our ton of luggage (14 day trip in total plus snorkel gear)
We get the room we asked for . #4 the end unit for privacy...nobody walkin by peeking in the windows!
Its gorgeous...king size with a loft that has a futon couch for additional guests-which we thought we might need for some family that were going to come by for the friday night party.
Out front of the room is a long patio with nice padded lounges and then in front of that hanging over the rocks facing right out over the ocean is a nice patio with more lounges...this was our favorite place....

and all you have to do is tell the staff to watch for you and they will come check on you and deliver lunch and drinks...when we plopped ourselves out there one morning the waiter just immediately brought us american coffee(its like a 6 ounce expresso...whoooowaaa.) read a novel in 2 days on that patio. my wife normally likes the beach ,but she enjoyed this and then we went down to the water to splash around and cool off. We didnt snorkel here because there isnt much to see unless you feel like a workout and swimming to the reef.
1st night we had dinner at the mezz...great food... I had the lobster and they do it well. the next day we just hung out...it was friday and we anticipated my wifes sister and hubby coming for a visit. They did...dinner there again and then the party...it rained on and off so the musicians stopped and restarted several times...but it was a great time..
The next morning another great egg breakfast and some yogourt and granola...remember this was to be a healthy trip....last night was a real cardio workout with the endless dancing.Just a relaxing day and we met this cute couple of young ladies from St Louis. They were staying at the mezz then were heading to posada margharita.
BIG BLANK SPOT...cant remeber it all, but the remaining highlites.
sunday or monday afternnon we each had a massage. By the way they were just building a new deck for out side massages...that will be nice. The massage was with the lady the mezzanine uses and she was soooo good...the best relaxation full body massage I have ever had. really good for me. Just Book it with Brendon when you get there or even in advance.
The ladies were back from posada margarita to visit at the mezz and we made dinner plans for the next night. I rented a scooter on the monday and the wife and I scooted down the road to punta allen. We stopped to see the beautiful stretches of beach just over the dunes. Riding the scoot/dirtbike up the dunes was a hoot.

We checked out the new monster homes built in the biosphere (thats a strange thing eh...how do they build in a protected area....methinks money talks .....these places were awesome.)

We stopped to make a dinner rez at posada marg....Alejandro said no...they only take 8 tables a night...dissapointed I looked at the rez sheet...one table was at 8pm...I suggested we could maybe be there at 6 and out by 8 to accommodate their late rez...he said yes.
WELL LET ME TELL YOU YOU MUST EAT HERE!.
We arrive for dinner at 6 .He comes up to the table once we were seated...flirts a bit with your wife (he is a good looking italian man) and she loves it and then he sits and goes over whats for dinner that night,,,he queries you for your likes and dislikes...and we were very impressed with how he described the food, then told US what he was going to make for us. WOW...now if it had been crappy ...this style wouldnt work. We asked for appies and he said I will bring some...again ...strangely assertive ,but by now with the way he had described his food we were willing participants...and the red wine was helping too. The appy plates was mouth watering. bruschetta , cheeses...olives...all the best we have ever had. (I want to add we live in little italy in BC Canada).
I had a fish dinner cooked in sea water...I cant recall what Deanne had....but we were amazed. The setting ,the ambiance ,the service and the food...has made it the best dining experience we have ever had....and we try to eat well every where we go.

Another night we ate at que fresco at zamas and we checked out their beacfront cabanas. we checked ana y jose and several other places and this was the only place beside the mezz that we would stay. we still prefer the mezz because of the music and the look. but the room #10 we saw at Zamas was a dream come tru stand alone cabana right on the sand.

So that wraps up the tulum part...we walked the beach north to the ruins and south to check out many other resorts....the water there is still too beautiful for my vocabulary. the mezz is a gem...modern with a laid back pace.It was perfect for us. But after 5 nights we head to playa for the nightlife and crowds...a change of pace....two vacations in one meeting all our needs ...we love this area.

Great report. We visited Tulum in December for the first time and really loved the beaches. Can hardly wait to go back. Your report has the info we've been looking for. The mezz sounds like the right place for us to try sometime. Thanks again.

Thanks for taking the time to share your trip with us. Wonderful pictures, words just can't seem to describe this area. We are staying in Tulum for the first time this year after two day trips spent there. Can't wait to get there! Thanks again, great report. :)

Hey Kerry, how was the Punta Allen road? I know you took a scooter, but how would a car do, do ya' think? How is the condition of the road, potholes, etc.? Thanks!

The road seemd much better than 2 years ago. Still lots of potholes but far less jagged rocks sticking up.
A car will do fine.

WOW..thanks for a great report! I saw on another site that the Amansala folks have opened up Pablo Escabar's old hideout as a very upscale resort. Major upscale, price to rent the entire place is over $25000US per week and from the pictures I saw I can only describe it as STERILE, and did not look at all comfortable. Also saw a report that they are paving the BP road to the Sian Kaan entrance? Did you see this? Saddens me that they might be paving the old dirt road, that is part of the adventure from Tulum to Boca Paila.

Zamas looks awesome! I have never taken the time to really check this place out but will now, thanks for the great pictures!!!

Yeah i was pleasantly surprised by those few on the beach cabanas...matched with that restaurant...probably a great choice for tulum.
The road has been paved fairly far but not to the bridge...

In Tulum pueblo. on the right side of the highway heading south. Right at the intersection of 307 and the Boca paila rd. (aka the tulum road)

Great trip report, my wife and I ate at the restaurant last time in Tulum, excellent Thai food, we are returning to Tulum April 18th for 7 nights than 3 nights in Playa. We prefer to stay south of Zamas because the beach there is continuous and you can walk for hours. We have stayed in Ana Y Jose, Posada Margherita, Nueva Vida and this year we will be at Tita Tulum, the only thing my wife hates about Tulum is she can not blow dry her hair!
