Hi,
I will be travelling to Tulum in April and want to take a mobile phone, could anybody advise which UK Network works best in Tulum?

Call your provider and see if they have service there. I'm in the states, but I called my provider, Cingluar, and my phone is set for international roaming, so I can get/make calls no problem. Other than that, there is a thread on the playa.info boards (search for cellular on the forums) that list some local options.

MadeInTexas,

So you have used your Cingular phone to make calls in MX? I read in the other thread something about "unlocking" your phone to get it to work in MX. What's up with that? I have Cingular, Razr (quad-band), and international roaming. Do I need to do anything else, or am I set. Last year in Cozumel, I couldn't call out - got a constant fast-busy signal.

Thanks for your help,
Dan

That was my question to Cingular too (I have the same phone/setup as you). You just need to dial 001 (or +1, press and hold the 0 button to get the plus sign) before any number you dial. They said that should work, but if not, then I'm going to use a local phone to call their international customer service # 1-916-843-4685 for help.

I've used my Verizon phone down there...its a bit spotty with the reception but you can get calls out...I was down last week and they are building up real fast. A lot of "Modernization" projects...I'm sure that includes more cell towers.
