OK.... I know this is tough, but someone out there must have an opinion on this.... Where is the BEST margarita?
(I'm willing to do some taste tests for the good of this forum):)

I'm not a big mixed drink lover but of the few I've had while on the beach I'd have to say Tita Tulum's was the most powerful and Mayan Grill (Nacho's) was the most memorable.

Mayan Grill is still my favorite because of the amazing setting, the giant size and the reasonable price ($70).

La Zebra's is definitely up there, but more hoity-toity presentation in the martini-shaped glass and they used a blender (though it wasn't a frappe, machine-style thing, it was still 'real'). Delicious, strong and same price as MG.

The cheapest best I had was at El Mariachi in the pueblo, but to be fair I haven't had very many in the pueblo. I was just so impressed by theirs, really delicious and only like $35 in March 07.

I've heard great things (was it DougSR?) about Zamas for strength, but I haven't had one there in a long time.

Nope. Not I beachreader. But I can confirm the strength and presentation of the margs at LaZ. Chain whipped up a watermelon marg that was very potent and really beautiful to boot.

I'm more of a beer and mojito guy though so perhaps I'm not the best judge.

I think the margarita is only as good as the bartender!! What he orders and how he makes it!! Just my opinion. I have had good and bad ones at the same restaurant...........

The worst margarita in Tulum is better than the best served anywhere else in the world. But.... make sure you know what you're ordering and how much they cost ahead of time. I'm just fine with a house margarita but more than once I've caught my waiter calling out "top shelf" to the bartender, with the resulting $3 or $4 premium.
At the same time, the large group at the table next to me had been drinking margaritas all night. There was almost a riot when la cuenta came and the bill was almost a hundred dollars more than they were expecting because the waiter had been bringing them top shelf margaritas (or so he said) even though no one in the group had ever requested the special tequila.
If you want a premium tequila, go for it, just make sure that you know what you're ordering and you actually get what you are paying for.

I had one (or more, can't remember) at Zamas and it was incredibly strong. Two drinks and the evening is all good.
