Toni-

Great photos of the colonial city, and the people. Ek Balam looks wonderful. We stopped in Vallodilad on the way back from El Cuyo, but didn't have time to go to Ek Balam. Looks alot less crowded than Chitchen Itza, also.

Thanks for the great pics Toni! We have been to Valladolid (and loved it), Ek Balam has been on my list for a couple of years - I now just have to convince my DH that the drive won't be that bad  and we are there!

Julie...if you got him to Valladolid, you were practically there...it's only another 30 minutes to Ek Balam. We covered both Ek Balam and Valladolid in a day trip from Tulum so it's certainly possible.

Hey Lee, what is the approx drive time to Valladolid from Tulum? About 1.5 hours down the Coba road? Is it easy to find the road to Ek Balam after touring around Valladilid?

It was closer to 2.5 hours from Tita Tulum to the zocala in Valladolid. You'd go west on the Coba road, half around the "Coba-Punta Laguna" circle so that you're continuing on the Coba road till it dead ends. Turn left and that road (I think it's Highway 180 - Libre, which is the free road) and that will take you right into Valladolid. If heading to Ek Balam, you'd take the bypass around the city (counterclockwise) and then get the road heading north to Temezon. You'll be on this for about 20 minutes.

If heading there, definitely pick up the Can-Do map covering Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Valladolid, and Coba. It's pesos well spent.

Lee - the only way I got him to Vallodolid was to hire a cab for the day  (not a bad alternative) - we went to Chichen Itza, Valladolid and Il Kil cenote. That was our first trip to Mexico and he wouldn't even CONSIDER renting a car. I can now get him to rent - but getting him to venture off of 307 is the next step - wish me luck!
