On our trip in May we would like to stay around Tulum or Akamul. I have been looking for reasonable ($50-$60 a night hotels). I cannot find any in the Tulum area. Any ideas, something I don't know about???

Hi Kim,
You should not have a problem finding something in that price range in the Tulum area. We are staying in Tulum in May for $60 a night at Cabanas Copal. It's not a hotel, per se, but I'm looking forward to the individual cabana experience. In my searching, there were plenty of places around your price range as May begins the low season.
I'm sure there are others here that have experiences with hotels, my research has all been web based so far. Do some searches and you'll get quite a bit of info re: prices, etc.
Good luck.

We stayed at Cabanas Tulum for 50usd and there are several others in that price range. They were actually rooms vs. stick huts. Akumal is getting expensive and the cheapest thing you will find is Akumal caribe Maya bungalows(huge room) for 70usd and Vista Del Mar(ocean front hotel) for 75usd, both very nice though.:D

Hotel Akumal Caribe and Vista Del Mar in Akumal should have availablity in May with no problem. HAC has both oceanfront rooms and cabanas that are directly behind Lol-ha, not oceanview, but, just steps away from the main Akumal Beach. They are very economical, clean and spacious.
Vista Del Mar is on Half Moon Bay.
Copal would be in your price range in Tulum. Also Cabanas Tulum a bit further down the Beach Road. Nothing fancy but they do have a restuarant and the best stretch of beach. I would check out hotelstulum.com for the best selection.

Check hotelstulum.com there are plenty to choose from... We pay $26 for a cabana right on the beach... There are cheaper and cheaper as well as more expensive spots to stay... We always wing it ourselves...
