Breakfast
Maya Tulum
Zamas (Better for breakfast than for dinner imho..good breakfast)
Trece Lunas
Casa Banana
Pan De Carmen (in town on 307) Pick up Awesome pastries and run back to the beach!
Lunch
Mayan Grill
Las Pepes-
Economica
Bronco Pollo
Happy Hour or After Dinner Hanging out
Zahra
La Zebra
Xamach Dos (Dinner too of course)
Dinner
Rico (Sat-Sunday only)
Dos Ceibas
Las Ranitas
El Crucero-This place doesn't get much attention, but what little mention it gets on restaurant and the bar is GREAT. Happy Hour is supposed to be pretty good too.
Oh, almost forgot..I found a website..really a blog..the lady who posts is talking about the Tulum Food Forum..so I click the link..It's us you guys..heehee...Tulum.info's Food threads..she loves the menu posting!;)
In her report, she says,
"There are some great local craft shops around with nice silver jewelry, pottery and embroidered wall hangings from Chiapas to the South, and I've been reading the Tulum food (http://tulum.info/showthread.php?t=890)forum --someone is actually posting menus. I love it!"

Las Ranitas for dinner, definitely!!!!!!!
I still say Tita's has the best fresh squeezed OJ on the beach though!

So you're looking for feedback, right? If not, read no farther...
Casa Banana? Eh...okay service, very little atmosphere, and decent food. Plenty of other better spots, imho. How about Don Cafeto in town?
Yes, Pan de Carmen has selection and convenience...but in my book there's no comparison to La Casa del Buen Pan.
Las Ranitas was one of those "good not great" kinda places for us. Seems like there's plenty of better depending on what you're looking for (authentic, inexpensive, atmosphere).Otherwise, I'm looking forward to that trip report!!

I agree with Lee......their pastries were fresh, yummy & very inexpensive.
I would add Mezzanine to your breakfast list....it was fabulous. I also agree with your assessment that Zamas is better for breakfast than dinner.
That is hilarious that we were referred to as the food forum. I guess she has us pegged....we are all such foodies!!! :D
I can't wait to hear about your restaurant choices and don't forget to take pictures of your meal selections!!!! :):D

Lynnette..I just noticed your avatar..you look Fabulous girlfriend! :)
I hadn't even considered Mezzanine..always thought of that place as too "Thai" for Mexico.
I came up with this list hoping you guys would change these choices..I was braindead last night and couldn't remember a thing about beachfront places. LOL! I am very curious about Tierras Del Sol's restaurant..and the other places along the southern end of the beachroad.
I haven't spent alot of time in that area..at least not searching out the food and bars. Should be fun to do that!

Hey Gale I thought a Christmasy avatar would be fun....amouROO did it for me. Looking for you and Fran in bikini avatars when you get back!!! :)
I had Huevos Motulenos at Mezzanine in May and they were excellent...good fruit smoothies, too. Their Thai food is good, but not great. They do offer more than Thai for dinner.....Bob had some delicious fish!
I forgot to mention to get to Ricos before they run out of the cochinita pibil.....I would say by early afternoon. You might need to bring your own container unless he's making tortas....I ate them at 9:00 AM. Really, really good!!!

Rico's! OK, where is that exactly? Is that the place in the little alleyway? I've got Maya's map all printed out and ready to be marked up. I really want to try some of that cochinita!
Oh, and a container. Hmm. Do you think if I brought a gallon ziplock bag, that would hold all the goodness? I mean, if it's hot--I've never tried to put hot food in a ziplock, but it sure would be convenient, and I always bring a few extras in my bag.

BR..reading my mind again..lol...I always throw a couple of ziplocks in the carryon..although I have never used them as doggie bags..lol! GREAT idea! They are great to store food in the cabana with..keeps the buggies out.

Kevin and I had an incredible meal (dinner) at Las Ranitas on our trip. He had fish, and I had what was described by the waiter as "five-herb Chicken." I don't know what they soaked that chicken in or what kind of sauce it was but it was the MOST MOIST AND YUMMY CHICKEN I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!!!!!! I was bummed it was so dark and I couldn't even see it! MMmmmmmmmmmm I can still remember it..... close my eyes....mmmmm......... you don't think of chicken being a great thing to get in Mexico but I swear if I doubt I'll ever have a chicken dish that I enjoyed as much as that one, for a long long time.

los pepes was YUM! we had the fish lightly fried(i think its pil pil) it was delicious. I ate past my capacity, the guac was only 2.50(compared to 6-7 on the beach) and was some of the best guac I have had.
Ranitas we had breakfast and lunch there(it was near tierras) and we found it to be tasty and reasonable for being on the beach. The placer even looks fancy, but didn't have fancy prices. Although breakfast and lunch cost the same, iM sure lunch is the better value.
Economica(the el taquetto one) was great as well, we had chicken verde. 2 HUGE glasses of papaya juice. the whole thing cost 8$ WOW. It reminded me of food my grandmother would cook.
I had been only a fish eater for many years, but this pot of food looked so inviting, and Im glad I tried it. As Bryan said, the woman seemed like she was genuinely happy to feed people good food. very warm experience.
YES! to a Mezzanine breakfast, the rancheros were very tasty. We went back once more and had chichen eatza. Its like rancheros but on corn and spring onion cakes(def. not traditional) made us happy though!

Wow!!! Three meals a day. That's a lot of food. You'll be spending all your time eating and won't have time to do anything else. LOL
If you get a chance, Why don't you drive up to Akumal for happy hour at the Lo Ha bar? Actually, it's the only time you can afford to drink there. After happy hour go down to the Hacienda Tortugas and eat at the La Lunita Restaurant. Tables set up on the beach with candles and great Coconut shrimp. Here's a link with some photos:

You won't be disappointed. La Bunea Vida and Que Onda aren't bad either.
I don't like spending much time in Akumal but the bay is nice and so is the food.

Akumal is a great idea for meals..I wasn't impressed with Lol-ha..except for the view and the guacamole..it was good. I didn't go at happy hour. We plan to snorkel one morning, Akumal would be a great idea for lunch..Lucy's Tacos..Turtle Bay...would be good for breakfast too! I have never been to LaLunita..always planned to go but never got there.
Now, I am officially starving!
