I found a flight for about $425 for our dates non-stop RT from minneapolis. It's late february high season. should I just get it? I'm only asking because flights have gone up a bit in the last few days and I'm wondering if even purchasing around the holiday makes the difference. Is this as good as it gets?

Also will they add flights later on? I'm noticing the flight times (time of day) choices are also getting more limited. What do you think?

I would take it now. I go 6-10 times a year from Seattle and I would take $425 every time.

I'd jump on that also. I watched the fares for awhile and bought when I got RT non-stop from SLC for $420.

What airline is it on? Some of the majors offer additional discount codes or rebates ranging between 1 - 10% in additional savings. These extra savings are above and beyond even their best fare sales.

I'm compiling a list which I should have posted in the coming days covering airlines, rental cars, hotel, cruise, and luggage offers that are good in not only Mexico but for travel anywhere. In the meantime, let me know the details of your findings and I can provide, at minimum, additional savings to get ya a couple of margaritas on the beach!!

Airfares costs have risen quite a bit in the last two weeks, but we are in holiday season too, and traditionally they raise fares during the Thanksgiving-New Years season.

If that is a good fare from your area, book it. If it's a bit on the high side, you could watch it for a bit longer, but at this time of year, I seriously doubt it will decrease unless the airline runs a sale.

Lee's suggestion is a good one..I cant' wait to see that list! I usually google "discount codes" there are a couple of great websites that give you the latest discount codes for all kinds of things. It's a good idea to do this anytime you make a purchase online.

Have you checked SkyAuction? You have to be careful and read the auctions carefully to see what is included..but there have been some great deals on there for air and hotels.

I did see/read somewhere that airfares were going to climb just like the gas prices. I think it said they were going to UPGRADE their fares. You know what that means AdGuy.. Price goes up!!!:):)

Apart from the sound advice regarding getting the best deal...and not minimizing the value of that....you might consider the intangible value of having tickets in hand for a return to paradise! I know for myself, the trip suddenly becomes real when I have pulled the trigger and spent the money. My research and trip planning (and forum addiction) takes on a greater intensity and enjoyment! The unseasonably warm fall we have been enjoying turned to winter yesterday, but I'm smiling because I have tickets to the "roo" in March....with temps in the 20's...that's priceless!

I'd go for it. We waited, and waited, and waited, waiting for fares to fall. They never did, and we ended up having much fewer options for flight times! So if you like the arrival/departure times, I'd grab it!

I like SkyAuction - I think I might try getting the flight first next time. It is quite possible that if you've already reserved hotel & gotten vacation days approved, etc., the flight times you are offered won't correspond. So I might start there next time, see what kind of dates we can get good flights on, then figure out the rest.

Thanks everyone! It's a Northwest flight and I think we will go ahead and book it today. I don't want to have to leave at 6am! (which would mean 3am! wakey) I'll let you all know when it's all a go.

Hey maybe I'll even do a ticker! I've never had one !

Have you compared with Suncountry? I believe they fly from Minneapolis - they usually stop in Dallas and we hop onto the flight. We normally pay $350 - $400 from Dallas on Suncountry.

Yes the suncountry flight for our dates is about the same and all the suncountry flights to the Roo seem to leave at 6:05am! Probably so they can stop in Dallas and pick you up! :D

I did it!!!!!! 424 RT nonstop. there are cheaper fares at crazy hours and w/stops but we just wanna get there!

We're booked for Feb 22-mar 5. Got all the accommodations figured out and
now for the fun part of the planning..comprehensive food research! WOOOHoo!

Now how do I do that ticker deal?

I did it!!!!!! 424 RT nonstop.

Congrats, mariposa...there's nothing like having the tickets bought and paid for to really ramp up the excitement level! :) Unfortunately, I was gnawin' on a turkey leg and couldn't get the discount codes to you fast enough before you pulled the trigger. For those interested in additional rebates for travel planning, one of the more comprehensive discount sites can be found at:

http://www.mrrebates.com?refid=124105

For example, all travel booked through their Orbitz or Expedia sites gains you an additional 2% cash rebate (approximately $17 in mariposa's situation) and that's on anything (airfare, hotels, rental cars, cruises). They also have deals for Priceline, Hotwire, and Ebay (three of my favorite Internet spots) and a ton of other sites you're probably using often.

As mentioned, I'm compiling a number of discount codes and offer sites that should be helpful to both Tulum travelers, as well as worldly explorers. I hope to have that information together in the next few days, but in the meantime use the Mr. Rebates link to start saving on both your travel and holiday shoping right away! It's saved me a bundle!!!

Doesn't WorryFree Vacations operate out of Minni? I think a friend of mine got a great deal through them (unfilled charter seats, I believe), but they don't fly from my neck of the woods so I've never been able to use them.

But congrats on booking the flights and being all set. That's a great feeling, and considering that MSP is one of the more expensive airports in the country, I have to think that $425 ain't that bad.

Guess I'll have to check Lee's thing out and see if I'm doing anything that might qualify.

Good. Now stop looking! You'll only go crazy if you find something cheaper at this point. Be happy--I really think you got a very good deal!
