Gabriel, Ginger, and others 'in the know',

We are planning to head down to Copal for 10 days or so next May. From reading their website I am quite certain that we'd prefer the Seaview King cabanas so we get a nice breeze. I have read posts where folks mention specific cabana #s where they stayed.

In your experiences, which cabanas at Copal would offer the best stay? Criteria would include the afore mentioned breeze, location to beach, location to other amenities, nice view, etc. Since I have never been, I wouldn't begin to know which to request.

Also, in order to ensure a good cabana selection, how far in advance should I start the reservation process? I know gabriel, you booked when you got there but also didn't get the Seaview cabanas.

Thanks to all for their assistance.

Definately get the seaview cabana. I dont know any cabana numbers, but I know you dont want to be in the jungle off of the cool ocean breezes. I would book a few months in advance if possible. We walked up in mid June and asked for a seaview King and they were sold out, but did have other cabanas available. We knew better and went down the road :( . Copal is very well advertised on the net so they tend to fill up before most others. When we were there they were the only place in Tulum that was anywhere near full capacity.

I had a garden view cabana, very near from their "lobby" and reception area. It was nice and unexpensive. Of course I'd prefer a seaview, but it wasn't available at the moment. I can't remember the number, but it was between the lobby and the massage cabins, less than 50 yards from the beach.
Enjoy.

It is going to be very warm in May in a garden cabana. We were in #15, right behind the beach bar. It was comfortable in January, actually had to use the blanket at night. Even in January you could feel the difference in temperature when you were away from the beach breeze. #13, 14 or 15 are all right on the beach cliff..just steps from the water. The sound of the waves woke me up at night a couple of times, but, it was also very nice to listen to at night. There were several farther south past ours that were close enough to the beach to be comfortable too..I don't know what the numbers of those were though.

Hey all,
Does anyone know if a map exists for Cabanas Copal complete with all of the cabana numbers? Would be great to see something like this... because some of the full and partial seaview cabanas are in better spots than others. If not, maybe we can put one together based on what we can remember...

Yes there is I ran into it whike searching for Tulum info. on the net, I will try to find it again. It was a color sketch that showed the cabanas in their location to the Copal property.

That's a good idea, dcap. I look forward to see what you can come up with in the way of a map. I have been overheating the Google servers, and found this photo of a map, courtesy of a posting on Webshots. Here is the link too in case the photo doesn't post correctly:

I suppose now that we can squint and see cabanas and #'s, is there anyone that has experiences in certain cabanas that they'd like to brag about?

Thanks again all,

A recent post to Trip Advisor had a good pic of the map board at Copal..same as the little one that is on the wall in the cabanas. If someone could enlarge that and post it up here, we would be able to fill in the numbers.

Thats not the map I saw however it will work just fine. Looks like 14-28 would have the best ocean view and breeze. Dave

Looking at the map, I can say I've been at cabana 30 or 31; it wasn't very hot even in May.
Very near from beach, bar and "lobby"
