Saw a post by Dan on another board, he is going down to BP on the 11th to check up on the damages.
He posted right after Emily that the place was pretty well gone, but, later posting is more encouraging, so good to know..not much damage to his place, just the road being destroyed had limited supplies going in and out, he said Gary, his caretaker was pretty well stranded. I guess for the first couple of weeks, they were traversing to Punta Allen from Tulum by boat only.
Haven't heard any condition reports on the BP road lately, except that all of the places closer to Tulum are up and running with virtually no damages. Let's hope they have gotten the road back in shape  (that's open to interpretation..lol) and drivable. At the best of times, the BP road gets tricky once you get to the entrance to Sian Kaan, so I can well imagine what Emily may have done to it.
Hope to hear more from Dan very soon, I hope he can give us the detailed Tulum scoop!

In June the only bad part of that road was from Zamas to the entrance of Sian Kaan, after that it was smooth sailing.

Email I got from Dan a few days ago!!
> Hey Tommy,
I think we made it Ok, but I am going down next week to check it out.
Gary the caretaker stayed through the hurricane and said coconuts were
flying by at a 100 miles an hour. The road down was washed out but I'm
sure it is fixed by now. When are you going to be around down there?
It would be good to see you guys.
Thanks for checking up on me.
Your friend,
Dan H

Dan posted this on 8/18 on that other board.
Just returned from the Boca Paila Penninsula- basically no hurricane damage left to see. The Punta Allen Rd is pretty miuch the condition it usually is, they just moved it a little farther away from the beach in some areas. Happy to report no damage to Xamach, other than lots of washed up rope, garbage and wood. Gary the caretaker rode the storm out without a scratch.
On the other hand, went to visit the other Gary at Casa Cenote- the restaurant was pretty much demolished and the Cenote was filled with debris.

Man, I hate to hear about Casa Cenote, I really liked eating there. Hope it is soon back to beautiful. What great news about Dan's place, as well as all of the BP road!

thanks for the update on Dan...we never made it that far south as we had a very hectic schedule....we did have a great private BBQ at Casa Cenote with Gary on Sunday the 4th....Spent the whole day there ....the water was amazingly clear and more fish than I have ever seen there....Gary is doing well and has rebuilt the Palap and Bar...They have been working from sun up to sun down for 8 weeks....He was happy to blow the day Partying with us....He should be open with the Rest. and Bar now.....The casitas will take a little more work though....I did snorkel in Manatee and it has pretty much been cleaned out...still some Algea floating on the top.....Clear water though for this time of year.....By Jan it should be back 100%.....Gary has also installed all new Equipment in the Kitchen and done a few more upgrades...I also thing he is going to be putting in a nice pool in the near future.....Cant wait for the place to be all the way back....you can see pics in the Playa.Info multi-media section from our BBQ....Under Tommy,Mikey,Flash!!!!

We actually stumbled across Xamach and on our way to Punta Allen just yesterday (November 20th). We never made it there, stopped for a drink and Gary told us the road was still closed.
The ride was definitely rough and it took a LONG time to get even that far. We happened to see their sign and pulled in. Gary was nice enough to grab us a couple of cold beers and let us use their beach and chairs after he let us know that the road farther on was impassable.
Also got to meet Dan and Drew who just happened to be there checking out the place and helping to clean up. Considering the circumstances the place looked phenomenal. There was definitely debris, but they've come a long way. The beach was still delightful and it can only get better.
We also stayed and had lunch with all 3 of them. Gary cooked up a stellar meal. Big thumbs up for Gary and the yummy shrimp.
So happy we ran into this place. My husband and I were looking for an "out-of-the-way" spot to spend future vacations and Xamach was EXACTLY what we were looking for.
