I am looking for the name of the restaurant on the south side of the road that leads to the Tulum beach area. I remember that the road is south of the Ruins and is the east/west access to the beach. It is a newer restaurant that serves Mexican food and I think they have outdoor patio seating.
Does anyone know the name and if it is still open?

Second question - who has the best roasted chicken in Tulum Pueblo?

Thanks for any info you can give me.

Tres Chiles was still open when I was there recently. Very good food, great atmosphere. It is on the right hand side of Coba Rd, going toward the beach, so I think it is the one you are looking for. They have the most delicious salsa I have ever eaten.

That's it! I remember hearing that they had good food and several people in the area recommended it on our trip last year. We'll be down in a few weeks. Glad to hear that it is still open. We'll check it out.

I know there is at least one roasted chicken place in Tulum. If there are more, which one is best?

Last January, after a tour of the ruins, we stopped in on Don Cafetos, right on the main street of town. Excellent salsa with a mix of vegetables that ranged from spicy to eye popping hot!

Six of us sat at a sidewalk table and had a great lunch with a couple of beers each for less than $45 including tip.

FYI, I learned that often when trying to recreate dishes I had in the area, an ingredient that is needed (and not easy to find back home) is Achiote Paste.

Achiote is a very common and cheap ingredient here in Mexico, even in our city, which is 1500 miles from Yucatan, where achiote has its origins. Try looking for it at a Mexican articles store, there are lots in Texas, California, Illinois, etc. Probably you'll find one in Vancouver. If not, I can send you a small package by mail. Send me a message to gescalantefat@aol.com I'll be glad in helping you.

Just had Bronco Chicken last week. Pretty good and cheap! On the left side of the road as you are coming in town. They cook the chickens and then store them in a big cooler. They were still piping hot. A whole chicken fed me and my wife and I am a big eater. You get rice and some fixins with it, they also have whole grilled onions, which were very good.
There is also another chicken place on the same side of the road not too far from Bronco, didn't try that one though.

Second question - who has the best roasted chicken in Tulum Pueblo?the Tulum-style chicken is grilled, not roasted. Pollos Bronco grills in the Sinaloa style, while the Tulum-style uses an achiote-based marinade that lends a reddish hue to the finished bird.

Have only eaten once in town and it was at Don Karonte's It was good but the ambience was different. It like they are kinda trying to be romantic disco mix  .

Que Fresca at Zamas was good also. :D

So cool you pushed some buttons James and gave us smilies Thank You :D No clapper dude though:(

Going to Tulum for the first time on the 10th of November with 50 guests to get married. We were all scheduled to go to playa to stay at the Occidental Allegro but it is closed for repairs. We were lucky to get into the Sunscape Tulum and I was looking for somethings to see, eat, ect. in Tulum. Thanks.

To see, of course the Ruins. To do,alot of being lazy, sunning, drinking enjoying the sparsley populated beaches. I would highly reccomend El Paraiso beach, a trip into the Sian Kaan and just wandering around Tulum Pueblo.:D There are also alot of cenotes along the Coba road heading west out of Tulum.
