I think we should have a new thread about the beds in Tulum. When we are spending 100+ on a room a comfortable bed is important to my wife and I. We spent 2 nights at La Vita y Bela in March and the bed was not comfortable. The mattress was more like a mat and a bar ran down the middle of the frame making slepping on your back impossible. Zulum is a new place so the mattresses were all new. Most were hanging beds which made you wonder about a good night sleep but, we slept great. We spent the same amount on the room at Bela and the one at Zulum and there was no comparison when looking at the beds
I'd love to hear about the beds at the other places we all talk about. What do you guys/gals think of the beds at the places you have stayed.
We will stay at Zulum again in April but also want to try at least one other place. (with good beds).

Interesting poll. I think a lot of the newer places are putting more emphasis on bed quality. My bed at Posada Lamar last year was very comfortable, and my beds at Hemingway (Iguana and especially Arrecife) were very comfortable as well. For me it's more about the pillows than the actual mattress (unless the mattress is really awful), and both Lamar and Hemingway had decent pillows.
I guess I'd rate them as 3.5-4s?
In my poking around Casa Violeta, their beds looked fabulously comfortable, even maybe pillow-topped, but I didn't actually lie down on them so I can't say. They sure looked good, though (I saw the beds in #1 and #3).

Los Lirios - hard as a rock! I slept ok but that may have had more to do with the cervezas and the waves crashing right outside the screen door.

La Via Laktea's beds were great - depending on your preference for firmness or not - I'd probably put it at a 4.5 or 4.75. Definitely didn't feel like you had a bar or a cot underneath you!
More to come on LVL in a later report. I'm just getting caught up on all the old threads from last week!

On my last time through, I brought an Aerobed (inflatable mattress) - no problems. In the past, I've brought Therm-a-rests, but the Aerobed works much better. I just put the Aerobed on top of the platform they call a bed. I bring an extra change of sheets too.

Packoderm, what are you talking about? I mean, where did you stay that you needed to bring an Aero-bed?

Last year we stayed at several places. The only place the Aerobed wasn't used was at Anna y Jose's - their beds are nice. We used it at La Luna (not an option to stay there anymore since the change of ownership, extra cabanas, and drastically higher price), Mawimbi and another smaller place at Holbox (the name I don't remember), and finally at the Tucancun in Cancun. It really helped at those places. I originally brought it for staying at El Mirador. However, the place was so filthy that I was vetoed out by the rest of our party, so we didn't stay there at all.
