Hi all!! A friend turned me onto Dan's fantastic posts, which caught my eye and led me here. Yes, I'm a newbie, but not a lurker. I'm jumping right in the pool!
I spent some time in Cancun several years ago and wasn't turned on. Spring break didn't help, but it wouldn't have mattered. Didn't know what laid south, and I wasn't with my honey.
We were lucky enough to "stroll" around Akumal, Tulum, Punta Allen, and Isla Mujeres for a few weeks in low season. The weather couldn't have worked better in our favor and the tourism was low. Granted, we missed out on high season entertainment, but between our being so amusing to ourselves and saving alot of $, it worked way to well, (if that term is possible!).
Next time we make our way from Akumal further south of Tulum. Tulum will be our starting point.
I was a bit wary of the open palapa places to stay. We don't care for the big resorts at all, nothing to do with $. It dawned on me (duh) that we camp out often and what was I thinking?!
I planned the last trip so well, that there was not a disappointment or mix-up. This next trip will be even better (if that is possible)!
I'm changing careers right now, but still plan on an Nov/Dec trip, if it is feasable.
I'm very happy to find this site and am looking forward to chatting and eventually, meeting new friends.
Thanks Dan and his Lovely Bride for sharing your great photo's and journal!
